So, if the Rockets had 1 roster spot left and they had to choose between Head and Brooks, you think they would choose Head? Wrong. Fail.
This whole forum should be called the Hype Forum since that is mostly what it is. That and about 50% full of people who can't write complete sentences. And let's not forget the 95% population that knows nothing about basketball but talks like they do.
WRONG! In a situation where there was equal talent at both players positions they would choose Head. Hayesfan sorry just getting tired of all the undeserved hate Head is getting. Its way out of control.
Fair enough. That is your opinion. I would bet that they would keep Brooks over Head in a heartbeat. Our PG situation isn't any better than our SG situation despite having more depth. I would bet my left nut that the Rockets value Brooks over Head under any circumstance.
Untill Brooks shows ANYTHING that makes him worthy of getting playing time its silly to say he is better than Head who is at least in the rotation.
I can't argue that Brooks is much better than Head because you are absolutely right that he hasn't proven diddly squat yet. I just see him as the more talented and valuable player.
We just have to check out which Luther Head shows up to camp after this summer. One off year doesn't really mean much IMHO. He can still turn things around. Hopefully we don't pull the Jazz again in the first round again...
What I don't understand is how lazy can Head be? He has known for 3 years that he should learn to play PG and dribble effectively, and every year he comes back and has not grown one bit as a player. Sometimes you just shake your head in wonder.... DD
I don't think that's true. He's gotten stronger each year (dude has some whopping huge arms) he's improved his slashing and tried to improve his shot - with a faster release that has hindered rather than helped him. He improved on his help defense and he looks less lost when he has to dribble now (though he still makes boneheaded mistakes). You can see he isn't wasting his summers. He just isn't a point guard. Some players just develop the knack for the position and he just doesn't have it. He's a scorer. If we can get him running in Adelman's offense smoothly, improve his passing a bit and undo the wrongs that were done to his shooting stroke, it won't matter that he can't dribble.
Actually his dribbling has improved. I remember in the Denver luckyshot game we lost, the commentators were actually saying how his ball handling improved and how he dribble past Iverson a couple times. But they also said he's the kinda guy who can only dribble if there's no pressure applied on him.
I really like luther's game except for the part where he disappears when it matters the most. He's a pretty good player if he can just take what he does in the regular season and transfer that to the playoffs. By no means do i think he's lazy. Lazy people don't get praised like he has by JVG and Adelman.
I don't think he's lazy either, the dude has talent and work ethic, but he doesn't belong on that list.
Luther isn't a great player, but he does have value, which is why he gets real minutes. Would you throw away a $5 bill just because it wasn't a $50? Would you give away your kid because they were B students? I can tell you from experience, you'd regret that one...
To paraphrase an earliest post on Luther: He is a clutch regular season shooter. He is also a pretty consistent scorer when given minutes vs. mediocre teams. Unfortunately, this team's goal is to excel in the playoffs and beat great teams. He has no place here any longer but he would be a hell of a 6th man for a lottery team or one just outside of the playoff race. On a below average or bad team he could average 14-15ppg easily. The Rockets are not a bad team, however. Sorry, Luther.
Well, it's normal to shorten the bench for the playoffs. We have a 12-man roster. Say 3 of those are there for development, 7 are the guys you depend on for the playoffs. Luther, I guess, is in between those two groups, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have value. Sure, it would be great to upgrade there. Of course.
Agreed. He did some nice things for us and would have real value to a team that needs shooting (just not in the playoffs). I wouldn't just give him away either and feel he can be a valuable piece in a trade to bring in a more useful player for this team. I do think he is overvalued by people outside of the Rocket organization based on his 3 point shooting percentage. Decent player but if he is in the 8-9 man rotation again for the playoffs I will be very concerned. Also, my last post was not in response to yours. I agree with what you said.
Head is a very good person but he is the only NBA full time player who froze under a basket, unable to use his legs to go up to make a dunk, his fear of failure showed that he just needs to go to a lower league and get a lot of playing time and strengthen his confidence.
