To be honest, the BBS has never gotten it right. Everybody wanted Rudy gone... And JVG's arrival was met with a breath of fresh air (actual offensive sets, disciplined defense, set rotations... All much different from Rudy's improvisational/hands-off approach). Then they went about as far as they could go with injuries and stars with limitations... And everybody wanted Adelman. Adelman wasn't as strict/controlling... But he had his own set of limitations on how far he could take this team (essentially just trying to duplicate what he had done at his previous stops where he'd typically come up short... With less talent and less overall success.). McHale was never meant to be nothing more than a figurehead... Then they lucked into Harden which turned things around quick enough to where having a coach should have mattered, but it apparently didn't. Many thought firing McHale would fix everything... And we all know the answer to that. Now we're back to a state where they're actually worse than the post-Rudy and post-JVG era (in terms of roster stability and upward direction).... But better than they were post-Adelman (where most presumed they'd have to rebuild at some point). IOW, Clutchfans has never gotten it right... And the Rockets give two ****s about who the 99ers are and if there were once 10+ threads on a subject. Unless Greg Poppovich somehow leaves the Spurs and takes this job, there is no "ideal" candidate out there... Other than the ones with still-sound basketball minds and previous coaching experience (and that includes JVG, Thibs, Adelman, Rudy, George Karl, and whatever other available coach there happens to be).
Yes, agreed. Right now, the inmates are running the asylum. This team has absolutely no cohesion or direction. I don't care if they all hate each other off the court, but they have to like each other enough to go to war on the court each and every night. Say what you want about JVG's tenure... But those teams probably featured some of the strongest overall team chemistry since the championship days. Hell, even the first Harden year featured a group that seemed to genuinely want to win together and play hard (get it?) for each other. Regardless of who they get, they're going to have to command the room. Unfortunately, I don't see Scottie Brooks getting the overall respect he would deserve... Hell, they not only didn't respect a guy with more rings and more notches on his belt as a player (McHale)... They did the worst and most embarrassing thing any team could really do (gave up on the court, and then tried to put the blame on him). And that includes if somehow landing Brooks convinced Durant to also join him here... Hell, they may just have enough talent to win it all despite any sort of respect for the coaches... But it would most definitely be a short-lived reign.
I miss those Clutch City teams, they always show love to each other. the city and the team and the fans were like one family. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Happy Birthday Vernon Maxwell <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/VernonMaxwell?src=hash">#VernonMaxwell</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/rockets?src=hash">#rockets</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/NBA?src=hash">#NBA</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/nba90s?src=hash">#nba90s</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/VernonMaxwell11">@VernonMaxwell11</a> <a href="https://t.co/cEzc4elfYS">https://t.co/cEzc4elfYS</a></p>— NBAck In Time (@NBAckInTime) <a href="https://twitter.com/NBAckInTime/status/642660185882759170">September 12, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
A lot of people here put all the blame on coaching. While better coaching probably could have made it less embarrassing, this bunch of players have a fundamental "heart" problem that cannot be fixed by 90% of active coaches out there. If you think getting a "good" coach can turn this team around, think again. You need to get rid of some bad heads on the roster to cleanse the culture of indifference and complacency.
Achebe's <a href="http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=25156">Get riddy of Rudy</a> thread Juan Valdez' <a href="http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=26089">Get Riddy of Rudy?</a> thread with the poll 20 days later in the midst of our 15 game losing streak (Francis injury) that led to getting the Yao pick. BBS favors keeping him. But I think "the Francis and Mobley won't pass Yao the ball" mindset fueled Get Riddy of Rudy more the next year. Speaking of Nostradami on the board, what's interesting is Achebe's thread mentions Yao Ming (kpsta)...in Dec before the lottery drawing. Also, anyone remember the dude who predicted the 15 game losing streak?
That was before my time. Interesting observation: only 35 voters on JuanValdez's poll. And JV is Member #35. A poll like that today would have hundreds of votes.
JVG had some success with the Knicks by inheriting a tackling basketball from Riley, but he couldn't do much with the offensive talent of TMac & Yao, not sure if he can do much with Harden.
Ha! about 35 for 35. What's also interesting is JuanValdez was able to post the thread in the midst of many Rudy threads and no one rehashed arguments they were having in other places. They just voted and left. That wouldn't happen now. You'd have to vote and restate your position. Plus, there would probably be the same poll a few months later.
Talking about polls, I remember this poll by durvasa: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=177302 Adelman and Morey went neck to neck. Those were the days. It was my proudest year as a Rockets fan in the last decade, even though we had relatively mediocre talent. the future looked bright with the Morey-Adelman tandem.
Anyone remember the Clique Wars There is no clique!! <a href="http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=30014">For giddyup....about the Clique</a>
Does the same apply to TMAC? 99ers are funny, some of y'all have knowledge and some of yall are just trolls.
