trying to understand the forum lingo so please don't flame a noob. (see? i'm catching on) what are some acronyms or terms you use around here? i noticed ibtl - in before the lock? and splash, but i don't understand what that means. if anyone would care to enlighten me so i can further indulge in future forum postings that would be great. -<3myrockets
IBTL is a cliche way of saying 'HEY LOOK AT ME FREE POST'. When people start stupid threads, or threads the IBTL'ers think are stupid, they just post that. I don't know how splash originated, but it's what people say when a trade goes down.
IMO= In my opinion IIRC= If I recall correctly <br> Btw, I thought for the longest time that your name was amyrockets. It didn't actually click that you made the <3 heart thing. I thought you were trying to be clever with an a hahaha
This may help with some commonly used "inside" phrases you may encounter... http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=96682
IBTL - used in response to threads that everyone knows is going to get locked. It's kind of like a "free post". "In before the lock" means just what it sounds like. Posters were able to post in the thread before a moderator locked it. splash - Whenever a big trade or free agent signing occurs, a team is said to have made a "big splash" meaning big move. So, if the Rockets traded for Lebron James, you'd see people respond with SPLASH! However, it is often used sarcastically here. Example: Poster 1: The Astros just signed Jason Michaels Poster 2: SPLASH!
In Before The Lock is basically your way of saying that the thread is really stupid and is about to be locked. Splash means that a big trade is about to go down. It will make a splash. To make a splash means to get a lot of attention, get noticed, etc., presumably by doing something good.
I swear if one more person posts what IBTL or Splash means I will go postal on a sewer creature within the next ten minutes...
IIRC a couple of years ago Leslie Alexander said he would make a big Splash in the off season (going after a big name). However it didn't happen. So since then people say Splash sarcastically whenever we sign a not so big name.
Yep, this is right. After he made that comment the entire offseason anytime the Rockets would make a move everyone would say "splash?" It caught on.
"Folks, this is real" means that despite the chorus of skeptics, you know for a fact that your assertion is a bombshell destined to change the tides of popular opinion. Most commonly seen in the D&D.
wow didn't expect so many responses to this lol. glad you like my <3 symbol hamza, i see where you're coming from haha. appreciate the help guys, now i have the certification to post splash in the upcoming weeks
