http://www.nbadraft.net/redetzke006.asp All-Summer League First Team F Lonny Baxter HOU Dominated every game. Solid post player. F Ron Artest IND Obviously the best player here. C David Harrison IND Very strong, good shot blocker. Rebounding? G Dion Glover HOU Awesome all-around game, but turnovers hurt. G Nate Robinson NY A star in the making, super quick with major hops. All-Summer League Second Team F Bryant Matthews TOR Lots of memorable dunks, good player. F Channing Frye NY More of a F than a C, excellent offensive package. C Andrew Bogut MIL Fantastic rebounder, plays with intensity. G Maurice Carter IND Very skilled, should be in NBA. G Tim Pickett TOR Fun to watch, high energy and enthusiasm. Baxter and Glover made the all Minnesota Summer League Team. I know its only summer league but that's pretty impressive.
I dont know that I would call it impressive, but it is nice that they cared enough to work their butts off for a chance to make the team. Now, lets hope that they can translate that success into some good play in camp/preseason...when it really matters.(as far as making the team goes anyway)
It will be interesting to watch Nate Robinson progress. I was impressed with his play in the only game I watched him play.
http://draftexpress.com/viewarticle.php?a=1053 All-Tournament Team MVP Lonny Baxter, Houston First Team PG – Nate Robinson, New York SG – Dion Glover, Houston SF – Ron Artest, Indiana F/C – Andrew Bogut, Milwaukee C – David Harrison, Indiana Second Team SG – Tim Pickett, Toronto SG – Maurice Carter, Indiana SG – Ruben Douglas, New York F – Chris Owens, Milwaukee F/C – Channing Frye, New York Little different take.
good to see chris owens getting a shot (former UT star). and can anyone show the assist numbers from nate robinson because in an earlier summer leauge he was putting up good scoring numbers but like 2 assists per game. i'm just not sold on this guy being a "star". a very good role player, yes. but i don't see this guy making his teammates better.
Any chance of posting pictures and video for Nate Robinson? Although he's not Houston Rockets, he's great to watch as a bball fan.
It's hard to get excited about a 6 year NBA vet doing well in a summer league for rookies and wannabes. Roberto Petegane who had a cup of coffee with the Astros several years back leads the AAA International League in slugging, Kevin Orie is the leading hitter in the AAA PCL, and pitchers Pete Munro, Rick Helling, and Pat Mahomes among others are tearing up their respective leagues. Vets in competition with younger players often achieve results that don't translate to a higher level of competition, where acumen and craftiness are common and don't enable one to overcome physical talent.
Definitely...I was looking at the Bucks website, and he had some very solid games of double digit scoring and high shooting percentage. I hate the way his UT career ended early due to injury, but it was the prelude to that freshman class of Boddicker, Mouton, Ivey, and Thomas. Owens was always a really underrated shot-blocker, too. Anyway, nice to see him get some props. Hope he sticks somewhere this season.
