Raphael Palmero has been suspended for 10 games for violating the MLB substance abuse policy according to 790am.
he will still be in the hall of fame. i have no doubt mcguire and bonds (both who are pretty obviously steriod users) will be there as well. sad, but they will still be there.
Has it been said anywhere what substance it was? I'm not doubting that it is steriods but perhaps it could be something else. Since he has been such a "on the bubble" to many about being in the HOF, I cant help but think this is going to really hurt him. I've never really been a fan of his.
I don't think Palmerio is this dumb. Why would he take it if he knows they are testing for it and risk his legacy?
Good question; nowhere in the article does it mention it, however on ESPN.com's front page, right column... That's crazy since just 20 minutes ago I was daydreaming in Lit class about Palmeiro's testimony...had no idea about any of this. Boy, this is just what baseball needs; at least it wasn't revealed yesterday during the HOF inductions. What a total dumbass if he intentionally used steroids and lied to Congress. However, there are probably people in the world who want to see him fail for some reason, so I wouldn't doubt if there was tampering of any kind.
He is going to get hounded for his previous testimony. "I categorically deny any assertion made by Jose Canseco that I used steroids. At no point in my career have I ever used steroids, let alone any substance banned by Major League Baseball."
Wow.. like others have said SURELY he cant be THAT dumb.. I'm sure it's just one the lesser known substances that he "accidentally" ingested... EDIT- now ESPN says it is the roids... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2121659
I think baseball needed a big name player to get caught. This will draw even more attention to the steroid problem. Now, young players might think twice knowing that anybody can get caught, not just minor leaguers and scrubs. It's just too bad that it's a guy with a hall of fame induction on the line...
Here's the quote i was looking for that goes with the picture. http://usatoday.printthis.clickabil...8-01-palmeiro-suspension_x.htm&partnerID=1662 "Good morning, Mr. Chairman and members of the committee. My name is Rafael Palmeiro and I am a professional baseball player. I'll be brief in my remarks today. Let me start by telling you this: I have never used steroids. Period. I don't know how to say it any more clearly than that. Never. The reference to me in Mr. Canseco's book is absolutely false. I am against the use of steroids. I don't think athletes should use steroids and I don't think our kids should use them. That point of view is one, unfortunately, that is not shared by our former colleague, Jose Canseco. Mr. Canseco is an unashamed advocate for increased steroid use by all athletes."
You forgot to mention this guy: Well the thing that got me thinking about Palmeiro this morning was that how in the world would he go into the Congressional hearing assuming he was being questioned for steroid usage when in fact...(it seemed)...that he was there as a "good guy" and requested to lead a "special task force" against steroid usage with Schilling and Thomas??? I mean, you'd think someone would tell him that he was there for the right reason... Well now Canseco is looking all golden; hope he's happy since now he's going to be on talk shows nonstop for the next week I'll bet.
Hey, with that sexy mustache, you'd think I was imagining about him like it was a mid-80s gay p*rn set in Miami or something... ...not that there's anything wrong with that. However, it does seem to open up a new career path for the guy if he so chooses... ________ EDIT: New Article with quote: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/baseball/mlb/08/01/steroids.suspension/?cnn=yes "'In a prepared statement, Palmeiro said he could not explain how the steroids got into his body. 'I have never intentionally used steroids. Never. Ever. Period,' he said. 'Ultimately, although I never intentionally put a banned substance into my body, the independent arbitrator ruled that I had to be suspended under the terms of the program.'"
