I would love to see another pure scorer next to Harden. There's no telling what that would do to this team. I foresee little negative.

It would suck if we traded for Smoove and Dwight decided to re-up with LA. We'd be stuck withSmith at a Max salary.

If Morey can trade a Patterson and maybe one more piece for a player that is expiring, but costs alot (ALA Rip Hamilton). That will give the Rockets barely enough money I think to try to sign Dwight this offseason without dumping Asik.

Seems rather strange if we don't even try to get a big man and extra shooter. Guess the goal really is just making the playoffs and getting swept is no problem.

    Lin, Harden, Parsons, Smith, Dwight

How little money would Smith have to take to make that possible?

Do you honestly think Rockets will try to make a move to handicap the team going forward? Almost all of the reasonable trade scenarios out there that would improve the team by any significant amount will probably damage the team's future by a decent amount. A Milsap trade would be ideal if it only meant giving up a Patterson + filler in the trade. Chances of that happening is slim to none. Morey like any smart GM is going to wait and take a chance at a big fish coming loose in the future ALA Dwight, Love.

Lin would probably have to go. Sign Smith outright, trade Lin and Asik for Dwight Howard.

    Beverly, Harden, Parsons, Smith, Howard.

I believe there's division on Josh Smith within the Rockets. I don't think there's one unified opinion.

I don't expect a Smith or Millsap trade, but knowing the Rockets, they would probably pursue those guys in a lowball fashion that could potentially create more cap room, if needed, by taking on more salary this year.

Something like Aldrich and Douglas (expirings) plus something worthwhile signed beyond this season (say Terrence Jones, Patrick Patterson or Marcus Morris) for a Smith (or in the case of Millsap, no expirings necessary). The Rockets would then try to sell that package as, "You're losing the player this summer, we're saving you lots of money this year and you get a young player beyond this year."

That way you don't cripple your assets in a move for that player, and if a Dwight Howard suddenly showed real interest and you needed the cap room, you'd actually have the chance for more than you do now because the Patterson/Jones/Morris type would be off the books and you could waive Smith or Millsap's cap hold (right, Bima?)

I'm not saying Atlanta or Utah would go for it -- they probably have much better offers than that -- but that's my guess as to what the Rockets are pitching: Cap room is priority... beyond that, we're game.

The only way it works is if the Rockets sign either Smith or Howard first, and then do a sign and trade of both Asik and Lin for the other player. Which means a Dwight/Smith combo will require finding a new PG armed with no more than the stretch exception.

Hey Clutch, hope you and Bima could come out with a CF podcast before the trade deadline hits.

You would have to trade Jeremy Lin with Asik if you want both Dwight and Smith with Harden. That's 3 max contracts.

he's never been an allstar in a weak eastern conference. worry a little bit about that. I don't think he deserves a max contract yet. if we can get him not max plus add a couple of vets, or a shooter. it'll make rockets a strong playoff team.

rockets should take a chance on oden, nothing to lose for cheap. former #1 pick and a decent backup center.

    http://www.nba.com/2012/news/11/13/stern-nba-revenue.ap/index.html

If Stern is right, and generally when talking about the business of the NBA, he has a fairly good idea, at $5b, that would mean the salary cap would be $69.65m... (and Sam Presti would be cursing himself to every night), Harden's contact would increase to 17.41m (as his contract is 25% of our cap)
