Yeah, I know we're all tired of Royce White and his crusade but this is pretty fascinating insight into the way he thinks. Link to article . Read teh full article on grantland. I just copied some interesting stuff here.
He so vaguely defined "mental illness" as to mean anyone who gets stressed out. He then said getting stressed is due to (what he calls) capitalism. He is an idiot, but I will take your advice and #BeWell
98% fighting aimlessly to get into the 2%? Majority of people have mental health issues? Sounds about right, Royce. I must agree.
His level of stupidity just continues to astound.... it's called LIFE, dumbass - deal with it or curl up in a ball and die. Quit looking for society to coddle every personal quirk - we ain't got the time! We're tryin to deal with our own stuff! Typical self absorbed self important victim mindset.... what an idiot....
Wow. Sure earning those millions Houston's paying him, this guy. Hey, don't judge my fandom, Royce White. The part about how every NBA player should have a personal doctor was rather interesting. Both in that I think he really does on some level mean well, and that he clearly doesn't understand how life works.
Then what did he say? I can totally agree with him that most people in the world struggle and suffer from stress and maybe suffer from mental illness (depending on how you want to define it) because not everything is peachy in their worlds. But, it's not the 2% doing it. That's stupid and paranoid. That's life. It's death and illness and hunger and sin. That there is a 2% that is richer than everyone else is a result of that too, and they don't have the power (even if they wanted) to solve the problems of the other 98%. If we're mentally ill because of the afflictions of life, imagine how messed up rabbits or deer must be, always hungry, being hunted, and with no one to rely upon when the going gets tough.
He's right, capitalism is the cancer of society. The whole world revolves around money and the means to acquire it and those who weren't born in a suitable environment tend to suffer because of it.
Seems to me that Royce doesn't want to be coddled, he wants to be mentally healthy. Mental health = Personal quirk? You might be the self absorbed one.
Finally the vision is laid out ... Aversion to adversity is not a mental illness. It's a natural reaction. Some people fight through that adversity and come out on the other side. Some don't. Some turn to other things to cope and end up wallowing in it. Which way you go depends entirely on you. No matter what. No exceptions. No concessions. If the stress of this society is too much for you to take, you have the rare ability to buy a quiet piece of land somewhere and live out your days as you see fit Royce. If that doesn't appeal to you either, I suggest you plaster on a fake smile and go to work like the rest of us. Officially done with this topic.
Rabbits are stressed out little bunnies, shaking in fear nearly their entire life. I don't see them complaining about Darwinism and survival of the fittest.
