He's about to have a triple double against the Blazers. If he maintains the 25/10 average and the Lakers win 60+, could he steal an MVP away from Kobe ?
No, because Kobe has been playing really well too. They would split the votes between them (probably Kobe would get more of them). I think it will be Dwight Howard or Chris Paul.
This is Chris Paul's year, he's turning into LeBron when he was in Cleveland. If the Hornets get a top 4 seed in the West, there's no way CP3 isn't the MVP
With that numbers how can you not give it to him but I doubt he finishes the season with these numbers
Best player on the best team is always an MVP candidate, so he's got a good shot if he keeps this up. The Lakers were actually only the best team (by record) once during their first threepeat (in 2000) and Shaq won MVP that year.
i think the triangle can make any very skilled offensive player look better than they really are. gasol is playing out of his MIND right now. i don't get why more teams don't implement the triangle.
Having a great team around him doesn't hurt, but make no mistake about it, Gasol has been one of the best bigs in the league since he entered (and won ROY). He was just stuck on a crappy team for so long he never got any credit. Leading the Grizzlies to ~50 wins twice is really impressive when you look who was on those teams. He's also one of the best international players ever.
Probably because you need an all star cast to run the triangle properly. See Minny for how horrible the triangle is when you have crap players. Regarding Gasol Clippy is right. Playoffs with the Grizz are nothing short of a miracle, if you think about all he had to work with was Hubie Brown/Mike Frattelo and Shane Battier. That is it, the rest of the guys like Damon Stoudemire suck balls.
i think Kobe may get it...voters may feel as if Howard will get his turn...its already a shame Kobe has only won it once....plus the lakers should again be favored at the end of the season.
I don't think Gasol will get the MVP, unless he keeps putting up incredible numbers. That said, whoever thinks Pau is "overrated" doesn't know what he's talking about. The Lakers are as dominant as when they had Shaq about 10 years ago. That just tells you something about the importance of Gasol on this team.
just FYI: pau gasol right now is putting up KG's like #s in his MVP year (which was historic - KG did it for an entire year and the stats are a little higher). 24 pts, 10 boards, 5 dimes. that's as all-around as you can get from a big man. he is absolutely dominant right now.
