Thread title says it all. I think it would be wise (if possible) to sign him to a long-term deal before his stats go through the roof this season, which they probably will. Thanks for some info.
Contracts for fewer than four seasons may not be extended. Longer contracts can be extended under certain circumstances: http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm Because Scola's contract is 3 years, it can not be extended. What Rockets can do is to re-sign him after his contract expires next year.
We could sign him with Early Bird exception now. But Scola would not accept it, since at the end of the season we will gain the Larry Bird exception of him, by which, Scola could gain a better contract of 6 years for maximum. You may find details here. http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#Q25
yes, I made a mistake. We can not extend Scola's contract now. Contracts for fewer than four seasons may not be extended.
Scola is a good player, but I don't think he'll get more than the MLE on the market. He's not a 7 footer, not all that atheletic and not that young. Given the state of the market, it's hard to imagine GMs will be lining up to pay him a ton of money.
This summer is a bad time for free agent but i think next summer will be a good time for free agent. I guess scola is not difficult to find a good contact next year...
We need to lock him up as a life Rocket. 6 year deal for sure...His game is not based on his athletic ability, so I see him being atleast this good until he is about 35-36-37...
I agree with you totally. But hearing that Utah might be interested in trading Boozer for Scola, they would prob. go after him hard. But next summer I don't think they have nothing more then the full exception to offer him.
I think he will get the MLE, but not for the full amount of years. Rasheed Wallace just got 3 years of the MLE. Scola has the hustle, he's got the jumper, he's a chemistry guy, I think contenders will be fighting to give Scola the MLE once the top guys go.
Jazz signed Millsap to a big contract. They want a Scola for Boozer deal to get under LT and perhaps think they can re-sign Scola for the MLE or less.
I could see the Rockets trading Scola for some younger, cheaper talent this season (or a star, if one is available). Landry/Hayes will be cheaper to retain.
7 footer or 6-10, 20 years old or 30, it won't matter. his kind of game, he's not going to get slower. He'll be effective until 35.
Are you kidding with all the really good players available next year players like Scola will be left with the crumbs. The only way Scola banks next year is if he has a monster year this year.
Scola is a key ingredient to a championship team. I don't see that quality in Landry and Hayes. If DM trade Luis, that's a major signal to tank this season.
I get the feeling Scola is here for the long term. Unless Landry beats him out for the starting position. Dorsey being Morey's first(?) own pick I think if he shows something this season that could see Hayes being packaged in a trade as filler. More so if Andersen shows he is a capable backup PF/C.
Next year will have some super star players in the market but ONLY some. Many horrible bad contract will be end next year too. Thus, i gues scola is not difficult to find a contract better than MLE and coming season is also a good time for scola to get stat if tmac & yao com back later... XD
