Wonder if Luck holds a grudge at all but a move needs to be made sooner or later. Just seems like athletics, off the field speaking, has been stuck in the mud the past few years.
I will be very interested to see what happens once Florida's season is over. I know O'Sullivan reaffirmed his commitment to the school, but he really doesn't have a choice while his season is still going on.
Wholeheartedly agree. I was really disappointed when they went with Steve Patterson especially when Texas knew getting the Erwin center replaced was going to be the #1 hurdle in the next 10 years. Patterson faced a huge backlash when he basically threatened the city. Who better to build partnerships for facilities? It's tough to really say baseball is a priority at many major schools and that is certainly true at Texas. Not sure the real appeal of going to Austin unless you're at a smaller school but they likely care more about baseball there. WOW. Great for the Big 10. I wholeheartedly disagree with the notion that ESPN "lowballed" the Big 10. They offered something that they could reasonably pay given the huge crisis they are in as a company with the exponential drop in subscribers but the bigger financial downfall would be losing the media rights to the big 10 to Fox. It's very important to note that Fox Sports is a division of Fox Broadcasting Company which is drastically different than ESPN which is an independent company that has %80 of its stock owned by Disney and %20 of owned by the Hearst Corp. That means ESPN's deals and finances have to answer to a board while Fox Sports has the security of the world's 3rd leading network (revenue) to act has a backup in capital if needed that can be generated from one of their other departments. In addition to all of the Fox Sports cable subscriptions, they own or have affiliate agreements with over 200 broadcast stations. If you are interested, Fox Broadcasting is owned by Fox Entertainment which does a lot in movie and tv production who is then owned by 21st century Fox. There are like 8 companies that own all aspects of tv, film and music. This is especially true of Disney whose business strategy shifted after Eisner was ousted from generating original content to acquiring more and more high value franchises for a huge sum of money that they could then invest much much more capital in to generate a much higher volume of content that would pay for the original purchase price. Unfortunately, that same strategy does not work with ESPN which is simply a cable network that faces a finite number of programing hours and a capped audience that is just getting smaller. I embedded a video in the spoiler below that actually does a really good job at explaining it. Stan Lee vs. Jim Henson (Marvel Entertainment (comics, film production company etc) and the Muppets were all purchased by Disney) It's important to know that Epic Rap Battles of History was created at Maker Studios (which is an online content producer) who was purchased by Disney a few years ago. Spoiler <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/PXBJIZ1NXFU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> TLDR: ESPN is a sinking ship who was forced to pay more than they can reasonably afford in the longterm in order to keep prevent the loss of content that would have torpedoed them in the short term.
Every coach they talked to got at least a million+ raise the minute contact was made: Florida/TCU/Vandy/UCLA/OregSt/LSU/Louville/Clemson... Baseball is bigger than you think. UT has now hired a headhunter to find the next coach, btw.
Pretty big news from the Big 12 media days. If true, I'm done with the Big 12. All too clear that the conference is just a step behind everyone else. As a Longhorn, it's time to move on from Perrin and bring in our permanent AD.
Bill Snyder apparently said today he knows there are two schools who want BACK INTO the Big 12. A&M is obviously very happy in the $EC so my best guess would be Nebraska and Colorado. Can't imagine Mizzou leaving the $EC either.
Again, being a CU alum and local in the area I see absolutely no reason why that would make any sense Sounds more like Big 12 people just trying to build up/talk up a conference that is looked down upon nationally. I think every team that has left the Big 12 is in a better situation
Some great 'leaders' Boren & Bowlsby are. Meh... Whatever. I don't believe for a minute schools like BU, TT and TCU want UH in the Big XII. If UH gets in, great but other conferences out there more stable. Big XII isn't exactly well ran. UH will end up in a major conference, just might be a year or two away.
I'll believe it when the regents vote for it. Bringing back teams makes sense but I don't see that happening and I don't believe that they actually want to come back. EDIT: Sigh, done with the conference in 2025. http://www.si.com/college-football/2016/07/19/big-12-expansion-news-candidates-bob-bowlsby Spoiler
