Not all damaged cartilage needs surgery and it generally doesn't require it immediately. Injections and PT are alternatives. Players often play through some damage during the season and then have surgery in the offseason to scope and clean up the knee (you see this a lot in the NFL). In this case, it appears he aggravated the injury and thus wouldn't have been able to play for a while anyway, so he might as well go ahead with the surgery instead of delaying it any longer.

 

Even I called it prior to Game 1. He rushed back and shouldn't have been cleared after only one practice. I blamed it on the organization allowing him to make his own decision, but it seems like he hid the truth from them. RC said he didn't let them know how much pain he really was in. They still screwed up in allowing him to play though. Even if a player is telling you he's fine, you have to test him a little longer in a controlled environment.

Aminu is better & Cuban will just collect the insurance money.

 

If Parsons were to take the surgery, $15M of their cap room probably will sit on the bench for next year.

Given how Aminu has been playing, I wonder if Chandler will be a sixth man next year no matter what kind of surgery he has. Aminu has impressed.

 

How much cap do the Mavs have next year? Can we do a reverse parsons and pirate Aminu away from them? Id be open to letting ariza walk and then signing aminu to a 5 year contract.

Career .286 shooter from 3, and shot .274 from the 3 this season.
Crazy that he's shooting .600 in the playoffs, but 4 games is a really small sample

I think he's clearly on the up, though. He plays with incredible effort and his help side defense is phenomenal (eye test). I think his offensive game will develop as he finds a niche, much like Parsons. For as athletic as he is, I bet he would be a fantastic slasher and finisher at the rim. Once he further develops his range, he will play a huge role on a contending team. I would love for the Rockets to pick him up. Even if he plays behind Ariza, our wing depth would be ridiculous. I would not hesitate to throw the MLE at him, but I understand the Rockets have other priorities at this point. Does anyone know if Dallas has his Bird Rights?

 

Aminu has had very nice stretches from time to time for a few years now. He just never keeps it up and end up disappearing after a nice run. Aminu will need to sustain his play for some time before I am convinced that he is really good.

More specifically, Aminu is pretty good defensively, it's his shot-making that just comes and goes. Unless he starts making shots at a rate above his normal career numbers, it's just hard for a perimeter player (or even a combo forward) in the NBA to stay on the floor and contribute consistently.

He lacks the focus and decision making to make much difference offensively.
His best bet is to become a good to very good defender like Olivia St. Jean.
