I can guarantee you that we'd have more than 41 wins and would have beaten GS atleast twice with JVG as our coach with this group.
Not with Dwight, I don't think. Dwight leaves terror everywhere he goes. I don't think JVG has the magic elixir to have changed that. I won't pitch a wall-eyed fit if JVG is the hire. We could do worse, but I believe we could do better. I was mainly responding initially to your assertion that his teams were always ready to play and compete. That's not exactly true. In fact, in arguably the biggest game of his tenure here, they absolutely weren't. I'd rather see us try something new.
Good Old Days weren't always good and Tomorrow ain't as bad as it seems ----- Billy Joel "Keeping the Faith" describes how I feel about JVG Rocket River
Under JVG we'll have the best defense while scoring 85pts a game on offense. Remember when he got fired? Everybody couldn't wait to play up tempo. Now that we suck on d we're gonna lose all offense?
Warriors and Spurs will be always powerful in recent years. You want to beat them with offense??? No way!!! The only way you can win them is TOUGH DEFENSE!!!!!!!!!
Gotta add Mark Jackson and David Blatt to the list. Morey likes international backgrounds (evidenced by his international scouting and drafting and trading for foreign players) and open-minded coaches. Blatt has shown to be very open-minded and has a high IQ. I'm not sure how open Messina would be to the analytics. Mark Jackson was more receptive to analytics when he was with Golden State than people give him credit for.
Jeff Van Gundy Only if he turns us down would I go after Messina - for the simple fact he's been under Popovich. That's a good a guarantee as you can get in this business.
Freaking A.... this is the nba, besides PoP and Phil there is no sure bet on coach. Our goal is getting someone better than JBB. JvG was known to churn and burn players just like Thibs. What I like about JVG though is hopefully he can instill some Work ethic into these chumps. Some of last years issues looked partially like chemistry but the other half was just flat out work ethic. Lavish Birthday parties and visits to the strip club need to be replaced with flat out working on their games. I do however fear that JVG may still not know what to do on the offensive side of the game, which is why he never left the first round as a Rocket. I hope he has learned to sometimes let boys be boys and loosen some reigns on the offensive end but totally go bonkers on the defensive end.
If JVG becomes the head coach, and as long as Harden is a Rocket, we will score plenty of points to win. That is a given. Right now, the Rockets are a broken team, and if you start from scratch, put the pieces back together by fixing the defense. I will say this again until I am blue: design a defensive scheme that works, no matter who is playing. All the rest -- scoring points, winning games -- will follow.
