Watching the New Orleans Bowl now. It looks like ESPN is testing a new style of score box on the screen, presumably to freshen up the broadcast graphics ahead of the first College Football Playoff. After years of going with the stripe across the bottom of the screen, they have an actual box in the bottom right corner. Aesthetically, I like the look of it, as each team's half of the box has the team logo, their record and the background is in the team's color. But I do find it interesting that just about every sports broadcast went to a stripe as opposed to a box in order to clean up the screen (at least that was always my assumption) and now we've gone back to a box.
Good start for former UH quarterback (and current UL QB) Terence Broadway. He's 13-for-13 passing just before halftime.
1. 9-4, that'll get you fired at Nebraska. 2. Must get boring winning the same bowl year after year. *Even though it's 'home' game for them

Mark Hudspeth at UL-Lafayette: 9-4, 9-4, 9-4, 9-4. If there is an unluckier team in college football than Utah State this season, I'm not sure who it is. Not only did they lose their super sleeper Heisman candidate quarterback Chuckie Keeton during the season, but they also lost their backup and their third-stringer. And now, during the New Mexico Bowl, they lost their #4 quarterback Kent Myers. Ronald Butler, a wide receiver who played quarterback in high school, is now in the game.
Never impressed with Chuckie Keeton and never understood the hype. That hit today was vicious. Felt sorry for the guy. I cringed just before impact.
I think a lot of the Chuckie Keeton hype still stems from that near-upset of Auburn a few years back, when we were all introduced to the guy. I don't think he was ever going to be a Heisman candidate, even in a sleeper candidate sense, but I do think a lot of the hype is deserved. The guy does have a 58:17 TD to INT ratio for his career, after all, without a ton of explosive offensive talent around him. The real knock on him is health, as this is the second season in a row where he has been dinged up. It's always tough when what a player does well is also what opens him up to injury and that's the case with Keeton and his fearlessness in taking hits.
Coming into the game, I was excited to see what Colorado State was going to be able on offense, led by Garrett Grayson and Rashard Higgins. Through the better part of three quarters, the answer is not much. They have ten points, their one touchdown came on a trick play (albeit a very well-designed trick play), and they just haven't had an answer for the Utah pass rush. Also, as if going to play a bowl game in Boise isn't bad enough, Western Michigan and Air Force are currently playing a bowl game in Boise in the rain. At least those are teams that played their fair share of games in cold weather, I suppose.

As the Memphis DB caught the game sealing interception, most everyone piled on him to celebrate around the 10 yard line closer to the Memphis half of the field. About 15 yards away, towards the BYU side, a fight between a BYU and Memphis lineman broke out. Not conclusive yet as to who threw first bc the replay never caught the true beginning. Anyhow, it was a 1-on-1 fight, but 2 more Memphis lineman were in the immediate vicinity and started piling on the 1 BYU guy. This happened very fast. Then some members of the BYU bench jumped on the 3 Memphis guys. There were lots of punches thrown by a handful of players from both teams. I have this on DVR. I think I saw #21 of BYU throw like 10+ body blows. Then #12 of BYU tried to sucker punch a coach from behind, and then he got knocked the F out by a Memphis player. Then he got up and started sucker punching another Memphis player that's in the Vine on this page. Anyhow, most people were trying to break things up. It started with one scrum, then became 2 separate scrums, but it was only a handful of players throwing blows. There were quite a few blows though. Suspensions or worse are probably coming.
