Crazy thing is I think they should've won that game. They were the better team for much of the game and really lost on big plays and a pick 6 that shouldn't have happened if the refs didn't miss 2 penalties. That fumble they returned and then proceeded to lose was a backbreaker. Agreed on the coach though - he is really bad. The worst is starting O'Toole over Lunt.
Penn State really played some ugly football this year. I don't know why I keep seeing people picking them on tv. Not gonna bet the house, but a hefty Boston College bet on their legitimate team seems like the responsible thing to do, lol. That total is also the lowest college bowl total I've seen in a while. If it was Penn State - V. Tech, I'd imagine that total would be in the 20's.
Good to see a Big 10 school get their butts whooped. Why Ohio State should have been left out will be clear in due time.
I do think Lunt gave them a better chance to win, but I wondered if they turned it over to O'Toole because Lunt just wasn't going to be able to stay healthy with the beating he was taking. At least O'Toole was mobile enough to scramble and avoid some of the hits. As far as Beckman goes, I'm kind of the belief that they'll be looking for a new coach about 11 months from now. This team backed their way into six wins and they were waaaaaay closer to being 2-10 than they were to being 8-4. They had zero close losses and they only had one emphatic win (Northwestern). There is a scenario where the team is actually better next season, but ends up going 3-9 or 4-8 and Beckman loses his job.
lol duke is terrible.. should stick to basketball at least nc state and virgina tech are reppin for the acc
Duke is a better team than both NC State and Virginia Tech this season. Sure, those two teams won their bowl game and Duke lost theirs today (that seems to be the metric you're focused on), but Arizona State was a top-15 team and I'm confident the Sun Devils would have blown out either VT or NCST. On the flip side, I think Duke would have handled UCF and Cincinnati. What David Cutcliffe has accomplished at Duke is borderline miraculous. In the modern age, Duke has had all of two head coaches that have had success there. One is Cutcliffe, the other is Steve Spurrier.
It hasn't been a particularly attractive football game, but the BC/Penn State game has been compelling. Headed to OT now. Looking forward to Nebraska/USC next. Although it wasn't a fantastic season for either team by any stretch, this game feels like the first big bowl game that we've had this season.
Whether they deserve it or not, prepare for USC to be ranked as high as the top ten next season. Cody Kessler, who quietly had a really good season, is coming back, as are a strong group of offensive weapons, led by Adoree Jackson and JuJu Smith. On last night's Holiday Bowl broadcast, there was already a lot of discussion about their potential for next season. Sure, they have a ton of talent returning and their recruiting is as solid as ever, but I can't help but feel like we've seen this movie before.
Duke is actually a solid team for the type of talent they have. Crowder is probably the only player on that team capable of making it in the league. Their team is extremely disciplined however and that credit goes to Coach Cutliffe. Just look at the way he had timely, well-executed plays on 4th down - fake punt, QB sneaks, and option pass. If you switch the coaches on ASU and Duke, Duke wins that game going away. Graham is also a horrible coach. It truly amazes me how many bad coaches there are in college. These bowl games truly put them on display and it's baffling how bad they are - but I guess that's why they coach these mediocre college programs. USC definitely has a lot of talent. Speed kills and they have a nice future ahead of them with the players you mentioned. I really like Kessler and if he works on his deep ball (and keeps that knee healthy), will be on top of most NFL mocks when he comes out. However, as long as Sark is coach, I can't see them winning big games. His playcalling is extremely conservative, especially when they have a lead in the fourth.

What do you mean? Literally? Nobody is watching that game. Sumlin should be interviewing people for his staff or visiting recruits, not wasting his time coaching a game nobody cares about.

I don't think Texas A&M should be represented by someone making stupid mistakes. Wait, never mind... Spoiler
