Well I guess if you have to spend it, we might as well spend it on him.

Haha. This is a partially guaranteed minimum signing that has no impact on the Rockets cap you're hating on.

The Rockets took a chance on a guy that has a clearly defined NBA skill (shooting) and may turn out to be a rotation player. You compare him to Brian Cook, but what if he's a poor man's Danny Granger/Tobias Harris instead? That may not be as likely, but if you keep taking chances on these guys, odds are one of them will eventually turn out and the Rockets have had success with undrafted players in the past (Chuck Hayes & Greg Smith come to mind).

Really like this signing, personally. Never stop taking chances on low-cost players, please.

Sounds like a move too setup a possible trade later in the summer could be a guy to set on the bench in a suit in case a trade wiped out some depth

Otherwise this is a pointless move and training camp fodder

Why didn't this kid get drafted? Was it because of his injury (meniscus) and reduction in effectiveness afterwards? He's probably recovered from that injury or is pretty close. This is definitely low risk with potentially high reward.

His salary will be $490,180 with 150k guaranteed. You can see a breakdown of minimum HBA salaries here: http://www.hoopsworld.com/nba-minimum-salaries

As others have noted his salary is the same as the roster charge so no impact on cap space entering free agency.

I would say a combination of the injury, tweener and small college. But he could be an athletic stretch 4 in this league. Certainly has more physical attributes than delfino. And even though it's only 150k clearly Morey wanted to wrap this kid up because he sees something in him. Morey's the fringe talent Jedi Master so that's good enough for me.

Can't complain. If the guy stretches the floor like he should, I'm game. Will be useful especially if we don't end up bringing back Cisco (which I think we will) or Delfino (who I think is gone)

Why was this kid not drafted? Pretty good stat line. Is he not a true SF?

I don't think he is going to be as good as Patterson, but I feel he could function as a stretch 4.
