There are several studies that show the ketogenic diet help pre-diabetic people and people with type 2 diabetes. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1325029/ Also ketosis and ketoacidosis are similar but very different things. You can track your ketone levels with at home urine testing. From my understanding a normal ketogenic diet, even for someone with at risk for type 2 diabetes, should not put someone anywhere near ketoacidosis. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2129159/ He didn't say he actually had diabetes or was even pre-diabetic so I am sure carefully following and monitoring the diet he would be just fine.
Yeah, I'm not diabetic, nor prediabetic. I have no general health issues, other than borderline blood pressure. I just worry because my family health history is so bad. A lot of this is lifestyle choices, though. I live a healthy lifestyle. I'm just looking to lose some weight (like most people), and I thought this may give me a good boost. The health benefits are not bad, either, which is why I was asking if anyone has done it.
to control blood sugar spikes and effortless diet, some Physicians prescribes "metformin" which can be substituted naturally with cinnamon.
Yeah I would do it, just do some research first. I am extremely happy with the diet. I have been trying to break 200 (been over 200 since I was 20) for a while, I got close in October but the holidays put me back up to 207. This morning I weighed in at 199.5 and I am thrilled. I was expecting to be on this diet for at least 3-4 months to hit my goal of 190 but it looks like I will hit my goal before then. I usually eat fairly healthy, other than booze, and keep myself relatively fit but this will be my definitely be my go-to before any beach trips or anytime I break 210. Reddit has a really good subreddit /r/keto that is full of people giving advice, showing off results and posting recipes. I had heard about the diet on Joe Rogan's podcast but that sub was what made me jump on it.
Google "slow carb diet" and block the word "low" so you don't get those results mixed in. IMO, it's more sustainable than the keto, atkins or whatever it's called nowadays because you aren't depriving yourself of all carbs. You can eat as many beans, lentils and green vegetables as you want. That way you get your healthy carbs which give you energy and keep you from getting constipated (which was a problem for me on the low carb diet.....). You also get a cheat day once a week where you can eat anything you want. When I did the LOW carb thing a few years ago, I lost weight but had major problems pooping and had horrible breath. Then of course I gained all my weight back as soon as I added carbs back into my diet. Just something to think about....
Yeah it sucks, I walk a lot at work so it's sucks for me even more. I'm gonna try optimum nutrition 5000 bcaa's.. read in the reviews that it helps with soreness recovery.
Started keto today. I set my stats at 2200 calories. I hit 1300 for the day and thought I was done. Then, I realized my ratio of fats to protein was off and I needed more fats, so I had some whipped cream and coconut oil. Now, I'm sitting at 1600 calories and my macros are on point. Not bad. I just feel like I've eaten terribly, even though I guess I shouldn't.
Horrid stuff. Kidney stones and all types of damage... You need carbs in the form of vegetables. Eating fruit with it's natural sugar and fiber along with vegetables is good carbs. Stay away from grains and wheats and of course anything processed or concentrated sugar.
I basically do the low carb 1500-1700 calorie a day thing when I'm cutting down, but I make sure to get at least 3 servings of vegetables every day, as well as some suja mighty dozen drink. I'm 5'11 and 200 pounds and I've never felt better.
For the life of me I couldn't figure out why it was so hard for me to lose weight. I would diet hard and weight train everyday and see minimal results. I recently added cardio just 13 minutes 1 mile on the treadmill and feel like I'm getting so close to my final form. The stamina I've gotten from cardio is insane it lets me go harder in the weight room, sleep better, mood enhancer and weight loss is a breeze now.
Nice. I do cardio more than diet. Im not big at all but had a beer belly and in December decided to get rid of it. I run a mile on the treadmill almost every day as well as weight training and minimal eating and ive lost 14 lbs. I was a little surprised.
Love Tofu, like pasta, please tell me you are not talking about pasta shaped tofu. Because I don't see the point of that.
I've seen cases of renal failure triggered by high consumption of watermelon or some exotics High potassium fruits. Moderation is the key
I think that's what I need to start doing again every time after I work out. I use to run a mile every time but now I just do weights. Need to get back into that routine because I burned a lot of fat.
I've been running on the treadmill for an hour a day (usually a fast paced walk, with incline, with some sprinting with mild incline mixed in) - it's doing tons of good for me.
I also signed up for Camp Gladiator classes. They are pretty fun & intense hour long workouts and the classes are mainly girls, so it has been quite enjoyable. They have lots of locations and different times all week. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to tone up their body & lose some weight.
Any advice for an athlete with lower back tightness? I lift about 4 times per week and do cardio twice. I've been stretching my hammies, glutes, and back before and after every workout, and that's seemed to help not exacerbate the issue, but I'm hoping just losing a bunch of body fat will get me back to normal. I'm 24 years old, 5'10 and about 205lb.
Day number 11 on keto. I'm celebrating by venturing out of the house, for the first time, to eat. Doing a five guys burgers in a lettuce wrap. I'm down like 16 pounds (about 8 of it under keto). I've hit a road block, unfortunately, in that I have a bum ankle/medial foot injury from upping my cardio too quickly. I was plowing through losing weight with an hour on the treadmill each day, now I'm more like a tortoise. I'm trying to swim a half mile each day instead, I started yesterday. We'll see what that does for me. I still want to lose a good 25-35 pounds. Any advice?
