A. The Rockets have a significant investment in Morris & 2Pat. B. (other that the last week) those two players have given the Rockets the best ability to win. C. The front office isn't dumb. They know this position is one in Limbo for the long haul. So point C. brings us right back to A. essentially. Since they have an investment in Morris/2Pat, and this is essentially the first half of a season in which both players have been given starter quality minutes, how long does the front office & coaches wait before they pull the plug on the Morris/2Pat trial run? Its easy for you, or any other fan to just say(after a 3 game losing streak) to just get rid of your two main PF's currently in the rotation on a whim, but YOU did not spend millions of dollars, countless hours & coaching/development resources, and built personal relationships with these two players. Morris/2Pat are essentially working a paid internship. Neither of them have the job long term, but they need to be able to at least be allowed to finish out their internship before you kick them to the curb. So how long is this "internship"- That's up to the front office, but I would guess its not that long. Its possible that the front office pulls the plug on the internship in February at the trade deadline if Morey is able to get assets in return, and at the latest I would assume this Summer they will make moves with these two players if neither of them step up and step into the role that the Rockets want them to play long term. Inserting Smith into the starting lineup for a few games or something minor could shake things up a little bit, but what you are hinting at here is something beyond knee jerk that isn't fair or wise for an NBA team to do. Which is to give up on players they have drafted and brought through their system before they ever get a real shot to prove themselves. This team has no reason NOT to give them at least a half season to show what they have before they just kick them to the curb for the shiny new toy the fans want to see instead before they want to see the other new shiny toy. Again, changing up the lineups a little bit is interesting enough to try, but completely giving up on both Morris and 2Pat is just plain out stupid when the February trade deadline is just a mere 5 weeks away. If the front office feels like they are better off with Smith/D-Mo/Jones instead they can move those two guys when its appropriate to do so, and it gives Morris/2Pat the ability to fight for their jobs for a fair amount of time.
Maybe he's been fasting. http://deadspin.com/5975598/carmelo...source=deadspin_twitter&utm_medium=socialflow
morris n pat been rebounding like crap all year regardless of wins and losses, and morris's contract shiouldn't be nothing to Daryle Morey, so i really don't see how big of an investment he really is.
1. The Rockets also have a significant investment in DMo and TJones 2. Not a whim at all. A lot of people have been begging for DMo or TJones to play all year. Most think that those two have bigger upsides than either Morris or Pat. 3. The Rockets have also spent millions of dollars and countless hours blah blah blah... on DMo and TJones.
I'm sure we're going to eventually start Patterson back at the 4 and possibly give some playing time to Dmo. Mchale doesn't seem to favor starting rookies or really developing them much though.
Where Morris belongs is the bench where he can come off.... play 15 minutes, hit a couple of jumpers.... then go back to the bench and sit down.

Can't agree more. They are going to pack the paint against Rockets regardless. Asik and Smith compliment each other and provide some screen and finishing which could actually help Harden and Lin's driving, also our 3 point shooters can get easier open looks.
Also with Asik and Smith on the floor, we are going to grab all rebounds to feed our streaky 3-pt shots.
Patterson is still our best PF overall. And I am still wondering why Morris isn't played at the 3 at all. Last year, they made the point that he was being groomed to be a 3 in the DLeague. Looks like the experiment has been scratched. To be honest, we don't really have a consistent shooter. Patterson is the most consistent. Maybe Douglas. Parsons and Delfino are like Jekyll and Hide. Some nights they are shooting lights out. Some nights they just lay brick after brick. We need more shooters on the floor to give the guards space to work. Teams have figured that if they sacrifice offensive rebounding and concentrate on transition defense, the Rockets can't score on the half court. Morris for some reasons has lost his shooting confidence. He's almost like Lin now, passing up open shots to force a drive.
It's clearly his confidence. Patterson returns and his game immediately goes in the crapper. Get over it, Marcus, or you will lose your minutes.
This may have been mentioned - didn't read all 4 pages - but why don't they give the man some shots closer to the basket than just camping him out at the 3 point line right off the bat. Give the kid some post-up opportunities at the start of the game to warm him up. He was known as a great post-up player coming into the pros.
Am I the only one who reads the thread title to the tune of "Don't cry for me Argentina"? I am? Ok. . . Forget i said anything.
for like 10 years, Rockets has been stocking up on position 4, but didn't really get a great one. Hayes was only a defensive specialist for certian occasions, Landry was ok attacking, Scola did a goot job, but they are gone.......
Scola paired with Asik would have been sweet. Bud trotting in to spread the floor would have been even sweeter. Alas! Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio? A red nation turns its lonely eyes to you....What's that you say, Mrs. Robinson? Our Joltin' Joes have left and gone away. Hey, hey. hey.
