What should we do with Giles?

Option 4...if successful then move him to 7th inning guy (whilst moving Harris/Sipp to setup role).

If unsuccessful in option 4 then you have no choice, but to demote him to AAA.

Gotta send him down. He needs to pitch, but at this point he is seriously harming the team. He has only had one good appearance out of nine opportunities this year, and that just can't be tolerated. Something is very wrong with the guy and I think it's in his head now.

 

Injury? There's no reason he'd be this bad after 2 good seasons. His collapse makes no sense.

 

We got fleeced by the Phillies. We gave up way too much for this guy. This may be a trade where we look back and say wow this was one of the worst trades ever.

 

The Astros should be barred from making any more trades with Philly. That said, I still believe in him.

 

Except that we've seen it before. Sometimes guys in this role lose their mental edge.

 

Rarely. And not without some sort of injury...and that includes a mental injury after a traumatic game/event.

Even so, those same guys do rebound. Giles is too young, with stuff that still gets K's, to give up on him. He does need to get out of this rut... Was showing signs with the 3 consecutive scoreless outings prior to this.

 

Not interested in watching the Astros throwing away more games in hopes this guy finds himself. Others can go out there and not give up a run or more every outing.

 

He's 25. With 2 years of elite pitching data under his belt. They're not giving up on him.

We've also seen far more examples of bullpen guys who are just snakebit.... they get out of it.

One overlooked fact is that his velocity is down... it was down to start last year too. If he truly sees an uptick as his arm gets more loose as the season goes on, it could only help. If he's not seeing an uptick because he's hurt... that's a problem.

In effect, his FB topping out at 96-97 is him pitching "injured", even if it is simply because his arm isn't as loose.

 

At this point, hopefully he's injury and they can fix it.

Right now, he looks like he can't handle pressure. He showed similar mental issues in Philly when his stats fell off in save situations vs non-save.

Trade him to the Royals or Rangers to screw up their bullpens

 

Utter disaster! It will go down as the Giles Disaster! Lol. Just to think of all the prospects Astros gave up. Thomas Eschelman has been pitching lights out this year. He is not the future closer for Astros. Riley Farrell is, but he is a year away from being so.

the only thing we can do is hope it turns around for him. we need him.

It is way too early to label this trade a bust for the Astros, however the immediate dividends are definitely lacking. It is further compounded by the fact that the rest of the team is playing like ****, so that doesn't help the situation at all.

The team needs to take a hard look in the mirror and decide which Astros team they're going to be. Hopefully they get things turned around sooner rather than later.

 

Is Farrell really that far away from being ready? You'd think a 4 year college pitcher, being groomed solely for relief, wouldn't take as long.

Then again, you have Mark Appel...
