Trump has negotiated with Carrier to keep the jobs in the USA. Say what you want about Trump, but he works his ass off - he even worked on Thanksgiving Day on this. Obama is lazy AF and would never have put in the required work to pull something like this off. While I didn't vote for Trump, this is great news.

    http://www.cnbc.com/2016/11/29/trum...000-carrier-corp-jobs-in-indiana-sources.html

The incoming Trump Administration and United Technologies (UTX) have reached an agreement that will keep close to 1,000 jobs at Carrier Corp., which is owned by UTX, in Indiana.

Carrier had planned to move production from a key factory in that state to Mexico, taking with it the roughly 1,400 jobs of those who work at the Indiana plant.

But shortly after CNBC revealed that Donald Trump was expected to travel to Indiana on Thursday to announce that a deal had been reached, Carrier itself confirmed the agreement.

Under a deal negotiated by Vice President-elect Mike Pence and UTX CEO Greg Hayes, the company will now keep most of those jobs in Indiana, sources close to the matter told CNBC.

While terms of the deal are not yet clear, the sources indicated there were new incentives on offer from the state of Indiana, where Pence is governor, that helped clear a path for the agreement.

While UTX was seeking the savings that would come from moving some production to Mexico, people familiar with the situation indicated that the savings were not worth incurring the wrath of the incoming administration, including the potential threat to the significant business that UTX currently conducts with the U.S. government, largely in the form of orders for jet engines and other defense-related equipment.

Trump had made the expected departure of the Carrier jobs a key theme in his campaign to capture the White House, using it as an example of the type of trade relationship that hurt U.S. workers.

On Thanksgiving Day, Trump tweeted that he was making progress on negotiating a deal with UTX.

I think, as this example shows, there WILL be jobs saved or brought back to the U.S. The bully pulpit in action, along with the threat of potential ramifications if they don't. How many that might be remains to be seen.

I see similar results from looking at our trade deals. They will be looked at through the lens of keeping jobs in the U.S., and that will have some impact. How much? We will have to wait and see.

Congrats to those 1000 workers! Don't know any details right now and I think we should wait for all the facts.

Wonder what bribes were paid? Trump cant do anything to stop companies from moving. States can offer tax incentives.

This was non-legislative pork; nice move but you can't do this with every single layoff or offshoring. That's something both parties will have to concede at some point. Separately other than his latent corruptness, people-pleasing will prove to be Trump's worst quality because eventually you either renig on overpromise beyond scale, or you just end up contradicting yourself over and over.

If the provisions in the agreement have stuff he can translate into policy, that would help all companies.

if it applies to everyone and doesn't involve taxpayer wealth transfer, great

if it's corporate welfare cronyism, awful

Now if he would just stop using cheap Chinese steel and aluminum when it comes to his own businesses, I'd be more impressed.

Good job Governor Pence of Indiana for doing your job to keep jobs in your state. Curious to know what you had to offer them to keep them here. Naturally Trump takes credit for something he has no authority to do anything.

It's very suspicious if Trump is involved since he has no authority. UTX is a big big company and carrier is just one small piece of them. They are a military contractor and I don't know if Trump is implying that they may be disadvantaged if they move jobs - eat a few million in costs for a Trump PR win in order to avoid losing billions later from Trump's wrath.

Also we are now teaching companies that one way they can save money is to threaten to move jobs to Mexico in order to get a better deal from the gov't.

Not sure if this should be celebrated just yet.

#1. Carrier said it was Trump and Pence, all evidence shows communication all went through Trump.

#2 I like that you have finally acknowledged that Trump makes good decisions.. such as choosing Mike Pence who you think can do a good job at things.

Yet another campaign promise kept by Trump. Where is Obama? My guess is golfing, hosting parties at the white house or doing nothing as usual.

Other sources said it was Pence who negotiated it (they have been negotiating since earlier this year as Carrier has already agreed to keep 400 jobs with Pence before Trump became prez). All evidence says it was Pence and Trump took credit.

In response to a CNBC report that Carrier will receive "new inducements" from Indiana, trade attorney Scott Lincicome, an adjunct scholar at the libertarian Cato Institute, criticized the deal.

"'New inducements'" = Subsidies," Lincicome wrote, adding "CONGRATULATIONS INDIANA TAXPAYERS! YOU INVOLUNTARILY BOUGHT AN INEFFICIENT AC FACTORY."

And there it is. "New inducements" = Subsidies. Spearheaded by fmr. Indiana Governor Pence. #draintheswamp https://t.co/ecJMtSssO9

    — Scott Lincicome (@scottlincicome) November 30, 2016
Justin Wolfers, a professor of economics at the University of Michigan, commented that the deal could set a troubling precedent.

"Every savvy CEO will now threaten to ship jobs to Mexico, and demand a payment to stay," Wolfers wrote on Twitter, adding "great economic policy."

The bully pulpit. LOL Profitability was bully pulpited, only with Trumpanzees.

That's the beauty of simple minded Republican politics. Jerbs! Jerbs! Oh, you gave them millions of dollars in tax breaks and set asides? But jerbs! Nice work.

This isn't going to please a lot of traditional Republicans. However Trump isn't a traditional Republican, he is a populist. It will be be interesting to see how Trump and traditional Republicans get along in 2-3 years.
