i understand all that. does melo? i don't think he will accept "being a backup" to ennis or ryno. he might accept a lesser role for someone like james johnson, bazemore, marvin... someone who can actually hang with him in practice and earn his respect. but if he plays half the season as a starter and we are #1-2 in the west, he will not be convinced to come off the bench for a deadline acquisition unless its someone like jimmy butler.

New age and time. CP3 aging and signed for a large & long term guaranteed contract. There are only so many times one can get up and down the court before injury happens. Why not play CP3 at key points in the game and let someone else (Melton) get the slack. If we play CP3 30+ minuets a night there is no way he makes to the end of his guaranteed contract. We think Anderson’s contract is bad just wait. Plus, how much is he really needed to beat the bottom half of the league? We should not loose games to limit his use but be aware of his time logged.

Limiting Melo’s playing time is not for health and prosperity it’s so he want get exposed on the defensive side of his game.

I think it makes more sense to sit him out some games for rest/reduce how much he practices than to limit his PT to 25 mpg...CP3 isn’t gonna go along with that, and u don’t give somebody a 4/160 deal to limit their minutes to that degree

judging by what mda has said all types of scenarios have been brought up in their discussions. I'd say what were talking about is one of them so we'll just have to wait and see. this is exactly what many of the "melo haters" brought up as legitimate concerns for the past few months but were quickly dismissed by the likes of H-Town Melo and others.

I notice a glaring issue already since hes signed. people are pretty quick to be so concerned with pleasing this guy. And for what reason. it should never be about what he wants. its about what helps this team actually win. He's not some superstar or true impact player like cp3 or harden. This team was already good without him and had its own identity. They didn't need him to win 65 games or put GS on the brink of elimination. They didn't sign him to be one of the cornerstones of this organization. He's a role player at this point but the issue has been he still doesn't realize that. I'm glad it came out that the rockets as a team had conversations about his role and it wasn't along the lines of "hou just signed melo. hes without question a starter based on the name itself" It just reinforces the fact that this team does take into account fit and value when it comes to winning

    Nailed it.

Save cp3 big minute games for the top competition. Give Melton some burn against the Nets of the world, because heaven forbid the same thing happen with CP in the wcf... at least you’d have someone with an idea instead of scared and out of shape Ryan Anderson. Or using MCW as a defensive stopper... use these guys. Develop roles. You can only sharpen the blade so much in practice.

Then it’s a really bad situation we are in long term. Call it what you will but he broke down at the finish line this year. It’s not going to get better, IMO.

I think most people know and have accepted that this CP3 contract will end up being an albatross

giving him games off and limiting how much he practices should be fine IMO...I don’t see how u go up to a top 10 player and tell him you’re only playing 25 mpg during the regular season...CP3 will never agree

they wouldn't have gotten there without him. So regardless of whether you like the situation or not, he significantly helps gives the rockets their best chance at winning another title once again.

its not like hes coming off some career threatening injury. he unfortunately didn't have the right time frame to get back to play game 6 or 7. hes been working all summer long. it's not like this guy has been sitting around and just "getting fat" like someone else

You guys no MDA is the coach right? I’d love for us to develop some of these youngsters as much as you guys but judging from MDAs past we will play 9 guys all season, only veterans will get minutes and even when we are up by 30 with 10 minutes left he will keep all the starters in there. That’s just who he is.

Man, that's a click-bait twist on his words. Yet another street interview when a star is walking to his car, and they try to turn Bull Durham-esque nothing answers into sumpin' breaking.

Of course, Woj started it by writing an article with sources that led to this thread, then he deletes the key sentence from the article only a few hours later.

Yeah, and as much as it pains me to say this....when his methods get the ultimate validation they will go unquestioned. Until then...

This is Woj, who re-wrote his entire article, because he was talking out of his ass.

Finkle is Einhorn! ESPN = WOJ CASHED IN HIS SOUL!

Didn’t realize Ennis was in the top 10 in transition possession efficiency that with his D is a nice complimentary option

    Love this rotation

    CP3/Harden/Ennis/Tucker/Capela/
Gordon/Melo as the bigger minute guys with Green/Ryno/Hartenstein/ Melton/Nene/MCW all being valuable options on stretches/possessions
