Guess you didnt watch the Espn vid. 2.5 rebs of Westbricks's rebs are uncontested, he gets some home cooking in stats resulting 2 assist discrepancy home vs away AND he has a ridiculous usage rste and shot attempts. Yeah, ok impressive lmao
I'm wondering if he can have a 20-20-20 game before the season ends. That would be pretty remarkable. I believe only Wilt Chamberlain has accomplished that feat.
i don't know what oscar's usg% would have been, but the game was so fast that he "only" had a 26 PER the season he averaged a triple double. he probably wouldn't have had a crazy usg%, certainly not in the westbrook stratosphere. and to others, part of what makes westbrook's stats amazing is a) simply the stamina needed to accumulate all of those stats every single night and b) somewhat contradicting the first point, he doesn't play a ton of minutes. even at the increased pace of the league these days, it is nowhere near what it was in the early 60's and players don't play nearly as many minutes. guys in the 60's, who certainly weren't in the kind of shape today's players are, were playing in the mid-40's minutes, with wilt famously playing all 48+ minutes of every game that 61-62 season. it was just physically possible to play against other non-supertrained athletes that many minutes and it isn't now. so you pretty much have to have a 42 usg% if you want to go at a triple double. taking into account minutes and pace, oscar had as amazing 62% more possessions per game than westbrook. you aren't going to average a triple double taking it easy on possessions.
Yep In his triple dbl yr, Oscar played 10 mpg more than WB is this year. That's nearly a whole extra quarter. So, on a per 36 mpg basis, Oscar doesn't get it. In fact, '83 Magic is just as good.
Harden's stats across the board might go down from this point (except assists), thanks to Lou. Should be interesting if they give it to the individual stat monstar, or the guy leading his team to a far, far better record.
Being impressed with Westbrook's numbers doesn't equate to disrespecting Harden's. They're both having incredible seasons. Respect to both of them. Harden is just winning more and that counts when considering most valuable.
Air Langhi, you're one of the smart ones on here, I hope you're okay with me not answering this. You know it's about the tie breaker.
Those dunks v. Pels, what a force of nature! No regard for human life. Would WB be an LBJ 2.0 if he was 6-10? Ridiculous athleticism and stat filler. That said, Beard for MVP.
I watched the Pelicans / Thunder game, Westbrook really put the team on his back. Amazing play from WB. To be honest, if Harden or Westbrook wins, can't get mad at either outcome, both are very deserving.
He's going to end up averaging a triple double, and the overwhelming narrative is going to be... "Wow. I didn't think he'd really do it, but he really did it. He really averaged a triple double. Willed the Thunder to the playoffs with no help! How can you not give him the MVP?" Which is fine. He's obviously a deserving candidate. Just shows that the narrative suits who they want to win, because it's not the logic used previously.
To be honest, Westbrook is proving his case for sure. However, this better be a replay of the 15-16 season. Harden was CLEARLY the MVP and they when with the "better player, on the better team."
