I think fans who followed both regimes know Both Sides of the Story The Rockets won 22 games in a row and even won a playoff series without one or both of their main All Stars, Against All Odds
Happens to every coach on any team in any sport, people led the charge to fire him then instantly want him back when things don’t go well. Just do a search for fire RA and it'd probably give you similar results as JVG's thread.
I always liked JVG and never thought he should have been fired in the first place. I'll start the chant....RU-DY...RU-DY...RU-DY Spoiler RUDY!!!!!!
Unless your winning championships no one is ever satisfied with their coach. But let's be real here RA is messing up bad and someone Les needs to sit him down and get him straight.
It was the odds who did not like him. Achieved nothing with two superstars = a feat that no other coach had ever done = sucked bad.
these JVG threads, it's always the same, it's just a shame that's all <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/x-LKOTppacA?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/x-LKOTppacA?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
Do you remember the Rockets offense under JVG? Hit it Phil! <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/LRM8x0YO_Rw?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/LRM8x0YO_Rw?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
I thought he led his team to the finals and had chances to face Jordan? I would think that was a great achievement. On the other hand, JVG, TMAC, Yao....failed to passed the first round.
Did he win anything though? They put just as many banners for Sloan's "achievements" as getting to the 2nd round.
How about bring him in as an assistant, def coordinator or something and work under rick... "On May 12, 2009, on ESPN writer Bill Simmons' podcast, Van Gundy expressed his desire to eventually return to coaching, stating he would consider being an assistant coach."
How can we just let JVG walk away, just let him leave without a ring When we cheered here taking every shot with you, ooh He's the only one who really knew the Rockets at all So take a look at us now, 'cos there's just an empty arena And there's nothing left here to remind us, just the memory of your Defense Take a look at us now, 'cos there's just an empty net And you coming back to Houston is against all odds and that's what we've got to face <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/GrnT40ZES2M?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/GrnT40ZES2M?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
