http://sports.yahoo.com/news/doc-rivers-won-t-join-clippers-as-coach-211251874.html Not sure what this really means for Chris Paul or the Rockets chances of getting him, but it sources tell Woj that the deal is dead. I still think it's going to be insanely difficult to clear Lin off the books to get Paul but maybe this increases the chance of him taking another look around to see if a better situation is available. There still are plenty of decent coaches the Clips could hire though.
If true (and I trust Woj) it can't be anything but good news for the Rockets hopes of signing a max contract FA.
Honestly, I could potentially see Paul parlay this into demanding that the Clippers trade Griffin to the Lakers for Howard. Since he didn't get the coach he really wanted, the organization should at least get him the center that he wants.....something along those lines.
Yeah Woj is usually on point with his info. Larry Coon tweeted that the Clippers can still go after Hollins or Brian Shaw and that might be acceptable to CP3 but who knows. Some rumors said that CP3 really wanted Doc.
I think Doc to the Clippers would have been good for the Rockets. With Paul still in play, sure he could end up on the Rockets, but that was always a long shot. Paul could draw Howard to the Clippers, or to the Hawks, or to any other team that could manage to swing deals to get both of them. Howard by himself is more likely to come to Houston.
I am sure Woj is well-connected, but it's entirely possible that the Celtics and Doc are just posturing and are telling reporters that "We're done!" to see if the Clips will cave (after, say, a Chris Paul freak-out this weekend).
This is my thought process exactly. I've been rooting for the trade to go through so CP3 will stay in Clipperland. I'm just not that confident in the Rockets' ability to acquire both Paul and Howard and felt there is a much better chance of Howard becoming a Rocket if he's on his own.
Quite possibly... something dramatic to make the league think it's not a package deal anymore. They postponed a press conference for Monday, so we'll see what they say.
The Clippers are so prone to turmoil. Wouldnt surprise me if certain clubs (hint, hint) that gained from perpetuating it leaked all sorts of things

Sorry, CP3 is not going to Houston because McHale is white, unfortunately. Look at this piece: "Free-agent star Chris Paul pushed the Clippers to hire Rivers as coach, but will have to settle for Lionel Hollins, Brian Shaw or Byron Scott if he plans to re-sign with Los Angeles in July. " Looks like rumor that CP3 wanted a black coach is true. All the candidates are black, LOL. I thought someone was joking when I first heard this.
Interesting point... I think whenever a player starts getting into management's business it's going to rub some people the wrong way and possibly create some more tension.
That is disgustingly racist and Chris Paul should be lambasted for this if true. Imagine the outrage if Dirk Nowitzki said he would stay in Dallas only if they get a white coach.
I really don't understand why he would say that... Would he really not play for (and just throwing a name out there) Phil Jackson if they hired him? I agree that the chances of the Rockets landing CP3 are slim to none, and closer to the none side, but I can't imagine race being the biggest factor to him. He knows the game and he is a competitor at heart, he has to go with what will give him the greatest chance to win a ring.
