Buyers remorse isn't a good reason... It just doesn't fit. If it was an anomaly and they really wanted to keep him (but were only concerned with his health) they would have repeated the test. They easily could have repeated the tests, could have said it was just instrument error or something along those lines. They needed that contract voided for some reason. Maybe they were on the verge of a trade, or a signing of someone, God only knows, but you don't void a contract from one test and one opinion. I'm not saying they should have gone the way of Tmac, bouncing from doctor to doctor to get the answer they wanted, but one test? It doesn't smell right, especially seeing as how Chuck is now cleared...

I'm not sure that is the case, as there is constant banter that NY may use its $2.5 million room exception, or that it has that exception available (i.e. Crawford balked at taking that amount) and they had to go way under the cap to sign Chandler.
JuanValdez, Don't over think this. A player lost he Bird Rights because of a mis-diagnosis. Hayes has lost his ability to negotiate an equal contract. The league should reinstate his Bird Rights so he gets the opportunity to negotiate as he did before the mis-diagnosis.
I don't know all the rules for the CBA, but maybe the Kings had so many days after Chuck signed the contract to void it out... so they jumped the gun? Apparently that's what the guys are saying at the Kings forums... there are reports that Petrie personally drove Chuck to get more tests in Cali before the Cleveland clinic so it doesn't sound like he was the one doing anything fishy. Who knows. Just know that it's been a rollercoaster and I will be especially happy to see Chuck playing basketball soon.
And the contract is fully guaranteed this time.. I think last time it was 3 years with a team option for the 4th that's what I am reading on the Kings sites
I'm very happy for Chuck. I hope he kicks ass in Sactown as long as Tyreke and company continue to stink.
Good for Chuck. I am glad the Kings did him right. It must have been a scary week for him (both in terms of health and money). I hope he can be a star on the kings, and maybe he can teach DeMarcus some manners.
Did they even get a 2nd or 3rd opinion on Chuck's "alleged" condition before voiding his contract? Fishy indeed!
So much for those theories. It's like the Kings gave Chuck and extra $1 million as a show of remorse for their misdiagnosis.
The unofficial story is this... after they found some skipped heartbeats in a stress test they asked him to get more tests run. When they did that they found the out pouching and suggested he go get more tests and a second opinion. The problem was they had a certain amount of time after he signed for it to become a valid contract... because the situation with his heart was still up in the air, they went ahead and voided the contract in the allotted time frame. Everything looks like the Kings didn't mess with him, they just were working under a restricted amount of time from when he signed to when they finished the full diagnostic. At least that's what I am hearing on all the websites (or reading, I guess since you hear less than you read)
