This is such bullshit. I live on the West Coast and don't get to take much of a lunch break. If this series goes to a Monday/Tuesday afternoon game 5, then you can bet your ass I will be taking a sick day.
You play 162 regular season games to get to the postseason and have the MLB say yeah we’re going to throw you a couple weekday afternoon playoff games. What a joke. Every game doesn’t need its own competition free time slot. They just don’t. This isn’t the NFL playoffs, you’re not getting those ratings MLB.
I would have been fine with 1 day game on either Thursday or Friday. But to have two early start times is utter bullshit.
This is odd, Houston and Boston is their biggest match up In the first round. Two major market teams who have plenty of star power, two teams who won their divisions and had great seasons. I feel like if this was in Boston it would be later in the day
Local Cleveland ratings have been very high this year... Much like KC was during their run. Fox is banking on capturing an entire market as much as possible. Agree with the above poster that MLB needs to put these games concurrently against each other, unless its the weekend. In ancient times, where radio listening actually out-paced TV viewing, it made some sense... but now? Anyways, like I said in another thread... the Astros have been very good in day games this year.
Absolutely ridiculous. How on Earth is it better for ratings to have most of the viewing public be at work during the game? Baseball is, by and large, a local sport. MLB just ensured that large swaths of Houston and Boston won't be able to see these games at all, much less a national audience.
That game 4 in 2015 when we gave the series away to KC was packed and loud. The crowd will show up, people will just take the day off or sell to people who will. But scheduling weekday playoff games is a perfect way of telling your fans to **** off.
