He looked a bit surprised on his sack when nobody even thought about trying to block him. He's been better down the field and to the sidelines than he was last year, I'll definitely give him that.
Mack vs Clowney last 2 weeks: Mack: 11 tackles, 2 QB hits Clowney: 7 tackles, 3 TFL, 1 sack, 4 QB hits, 1 PD
Just stay healthy buddy... Dude is a monster. I love that we dont need to just rely on Watt to make something happen. Watt/Merci/Clown Honestly impossible to game plan against all 3 of these dudes. And probably the reason McKinney is getting through untouched on his blitzes...because those other 3 require so much attention.
With the vast improvements from Merciless these last two seasons, it really is impressive to look back at Rick Smith's track record in the first round of the draft. I know that's where the highest talent is and teams SHOULD be hitting on those draft picks, but most teams will have several flat out busts over the course of a decade or so. You have to go back 9 years of the Rick Smith era before you see one (Amobi Okoye). And in Okoye's case, it was a known risk that he might not develop like they thought, since he was so young when he was drafted. Some of the others after him have had injury history, but I think we've seen enough of all of them (including Fuller in just two games) to realize they were absolutely not busts.
I would say that it was more fair to compare Mack to players like John Simon....but John Simon is blowing him out of the water too with 9 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 5 QB hits, and a forced fumble. Comparing Mack to Mercilus would be just as bad. Hopefully the Mack hype dies this season.
The only person Mack should compared to is Clowney...bc that was the option available to the Texans at the time they took Clowney. Doesnt make any sense to compare Mack to anyone else. And in this regard, I take a healthy Clowney over Mack. Still too early to come to any sort of definitive decision on right/wrong...but Im content with how it's played out for the Texans so far.
I'm just saying that it's unfair to compare Mack with Clowney. The talent gap between the two is massive.
Tons of credit should go to Mike Vrabel. Is Romeo retiring soon? Would be nice to promote Vrabel to DC because he will undoubtedly be leaving next year for a promotion.
He's already been promised the DC job when Romeo leaves and I think he already is starting to do a lot of that job now. He was offered a DC job this past offseason and he turned it down, I don't think he's going anywhere.
Knew Clonwey would be ok! Just stay healthy big man. Huge we got Vrabel to stick around. Will be a great DC
