Don't want to sound racist, but Capela is black ( shocker, right? ). Despite his passport saying he's European, what you mean by saying all Europeans can shoot is white Europeans who enter NBA can shoot, because they lack athleticism, so they have to be good at everything else. Since Capela is the athletic type, "Euro NBA player" stereotype doesn't fit him.
Not quite. Everything about Terrence Jones screams he can't shoot. The numbers are terrible. AND when you watch Terrence shoot, you see a host of mechanical problems. But...in Capela's case. The numbers are very limited. He wasn't told to shoot in d-league. He was told to run pick-and-rolls, finish, defend, and rebound. So shooting wasn't something he tried to do nor was it something that he has even begun working on yet. And for all the Jonesers out there that keep talking about how young Terrence is................this dude is 2 years younger than Terrence. But here's where everything DOES NOT scream that Clint can't shoot. HIS MECHANICS! His mechanics give him a chance. He's got decent footwork. He frames up well. In some of those shots he's showing a very nice, feathery release off his fingertips. And he doesn't have a bunch of stops and starts in his mechanics. And his body isn't all twisted and torqued like he's being unscrewed out of the wood slats of the court. So.......there is something to work with here as far as Clint's shooting. Now.....I'm not convinced this kid is going to be a star. I have remained largely absent from this thread. Kid is showing me right now that he's got a lot of heart and a lot of drive to go along with his talent. But I'm still not convinced he has the mental ability to be great in the NBA or even really, really good in this league. But I am convinced that his jump shot is worth working on. And I'll tell you this....if this kid could shoot the 3-ball effectively he would be well on his way to over $100 million in career earnings.
No. No I don't think that's what he meant at all. I think he meant that Capella's free throw form looks like that of a shooter. And that all players he can think of that have a background in the EU have been able to shoot. You're just sounding racist, whether you wanted to or not.
Exactly. McHale says he still wants to play big. This is a way to do it while still being able to cover the smalls.
Agreed. He looked surprisingly excellent guarding the perimeter. The only problem was that when he was on the perimeter he wasn't down low to rebound and gave up some offensive boards. I don't wanna get too excited about the kid, but he was great. He moves so well too for a long lanky almost awkward body type. Hope he can keep it going tonight.
U can't play Eastwood and Staypuff together (Staypuff after 3 years still doesn't understand defensive rotations).
Wow u are way out of line...This kid can't shoot a pumpkin with a shot gun very uncoordinated a star???no no no potential yes yes yes
I predict at least one Akeem moment from Capela tonight. Likely he blocks a shot, recovers the ball, and takes it all the way to the other end for a dunk. Of course he gets fouled and goes to the line, making the shot.
Bostjan Nachbar is offended that you forgot about him. Didn't JVG remark that he was the only European who couldn't shoot? Heh heh. Not funny at the time but funny now.
There may be a chance that he develops a jump shot. That's a far cry, though, from comparing him to Kevin Garnett, which is where I jumped in.
Pretty sure Dolph is a better FT shooter than this guy. http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/biedran01.html
haha, I didn't forget about him. Who could forgot about our old boy for going tall against Malone. JVG had too high of an expectation of EU players
