At the very least, Melo is a rotation-worthy wing. We were playing only 6 guys at the end of the GSW series. If CP3 is confident that Melo can add value to our team, then that's good enough for me.
It’s all repeat and rinse, same people saying he sucked then we’re rooting for him when we almost traded for him and then went back to hating him and now say “he wouldn’t be bad” now that he’s getting bought out Gotta love clutch fans
Maybe because a year's worth of statistand visiual evidence says he is a way past his prime inefficient unathletic chucker?
Melo absolutely was comparable to CP3 as a scorer during his time with the Knicks and Nuggets. The differences between the two are that CP3 has always been a more efficient scorer, along with being an elite defender and playmaker at the point guard position. The positive for Melo is his elite scoring ability. You can run an offense through Melo if necessary and that type of player would help the Rockets against the Warriors. Defenses also respect him, meaning they are less likely to double Harden or Paul. Then, when you have nights that CP3 misses games, Melo can slide into the second scoring role with ease. Finally, Melo and CP3 are tight, so he’s more likely to accept the third option role here than he was in in OKC. The bottom line is Melo absolutely is a risk. But considering the goal is to beat the Warriors, and how cheaply he can be attained, it’s a risk worth taking if you are the Rockets.
Yet here we are, clutchfans drooling 27 pages deep. Don’t really think your point is valid to what I’m saying.
once again melo is 34 not 24. if at this point you're running your offense through him you are either a horrible team who doesn't care if they lose or just a flat out dumb team
No way Melo can be the #1 option on any championship squad. Those days are long over regardless of how much you guys try to convince me that is game doesn't rely on athletiscism. I don't see Melo being good here. If he is going to be good here he is going to have to play the best defense he has ever played in his career. His athletiscism has declined and although he does not need athletiscism to play well on the offensive end, he does need athleticism to play on the defensive end. His lateral movement has always been poor and he is hardly focused on that end of the floor. The reason the Rockets did so damn well against the Warriors was because of the defensive intensity. We mostly had the offense to compete, but defensively we just took it to another level. We won't get that with Melo. In fact remember when we tried playing Ryno game 7, that's what will happen with Melo when we play the Warriors. I'm not convinced. Not even at the minimum. The guy has a huge ego, so that's why I see this as risky. I don't even see the high reward part. If we have a drop off defensively from last year, we won't be competiting with the Warriors. At this point, that's what I see as the ultimate goal, beating them. Everything else doesn't matter.
Y'al think the Rockets run some fancy motion/pace and space offense. It's ISO heavy, letting it rain from 3. Dude is a perfect fit.
If you can't learn something from a Clutchfans Melo discussion thread it's likely you have low BBSIQ -- the wealth of fresh information in this thread alone could produce multiple PhD dissertations.
He averaged 22 points a game in both his age 31 and 32 seasons with the Knicks. He didn’t suddenly forget how to score the very next season with the Thunder.
Like it or not, you guys better accept the fact that Melo is coming if it's true that the Lakers have no interest. We'll see how that ends once he's here.
thats great. is that supposed to be impressive. because throwing up 20 shots a game isn't oh everyone knows he didn't forget how to score. thats why he throws up as many shots as he can no matter how inefficient he is with his decline. that's one of his glaring problems
So watching Melo watch Westbrook jack up wild shots from all over the court -- agreed it was a trainwreck.
