I guess its finally time to start this thread! Seems McNair likes the NFL experience history, so not really sure his chances at getting someone from the NCAAF.

zimmer - his defense has been shutting down elite QB's this season even with injuries to key players

This season our biggest failure was the quarterback position. What they need is a coach with experience who is good at developing Quarterbacks. Especially since we'll get the 1st pick and Teddy Bridgewater is a franchise quarterback and the favorite of next year's draft. Jon Gruden is the right fit for the job.
Hands down and end of discussion.

It's Gruden's job if he wants it. I doubt he does.

What about Darrell Bevell, the Seahawks OC? He's done a pretty good job developing Russell Wilson...

I'd be trying to steal him as DC if he doesn't become head coach. Or Todd Bowles in AZ.

Cowher is not coming here. Supposedly gruden was spotted at IAH the Saturday after thanksgiving, but he is a slim chance as well.

I'd say the top candidates are Lovie Smith and David shaw.

But uncle Bob is looking for someone with head coaching experience. Jon Gruden is the right fit and won a Superbowl.

Houston Texans likely to target David Shaw, columnist says

    Quote:

With his success at Stanford and his experience coaching in the NFL, David Shaw has become a hot commodity at both the college level and the NFL. With Friday's news that the Houston Texans have fired Gary Kubiak as their head coach, Shaw's name has again been thrown into mix for a coaching vacancy.

Now PlayingNFL: College Football 24/7CFB 24/7: USC HC Steve Sarkisian/Missouri QB James Franklin
Appearing on NFL Network, Houston Chronicle columnist John McClain said he believes Shaw will be a prime candidate to replace Kubiak in Houston.

"There's going to be a lot of candidates," McClain said. "Shaw has an NFL background, NFL pedigree. He could leave Stanford for just about any job he wanted, but the Texans, I know, will check him out as well as Lovie Smith and some others.

"I think the fact they want someone with an NFL background is very telltale," he said. "That rules out college head coaches that have never been in the NFL."

Shaw has had stints as an NFL assistant coach for the Philadelphia Eagles, Oakland Raiders and most recently the Baltimore Ravens. He was the offensive coordinator at Stanford from 2007-10 under Jim Harbaugh, now head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, before taking over as the Cardinal's head coach in 2011. Stanford has gone 33-6 under Shaw, including a 10-2 record this year.

Stanford meets Arizona State on Saturday in the Pac-12 championship game.

Earlier this season, Shaw was mentioned as a possible candidate for head coaching jobs at USC as well as Texas. He denied having interest in both jobs.

Seriously doubt that Pancakes has insider info, but worth a mention nonetheless. Perhaps he's just parroting names he's heard from unconfirmed sources at Reliant.
