I was rooting for Keo last year, but this preseason and last night especially have not been kind. I guess he must do something Pleasant does not do special teams because I frankly can't see Keo ever being a legit sub for any of our safeties while on regular defense. Maybe they can convert him into a interior linebacker?
Congrats to Holliday for finally sticking! Really a great story. I read somewhere that his running times were so fast in high school that his dad used to add time to them so the coaches would actually believe them.
Kubiak: Rick and them had been looking at Clutts. We've been looking at a few guys. They studied him, passed him to me, I studied him. Started in Cleveland, went to Chicago, ran a portion of our scheme, I like the try. Nothing is etched in stone. A lot of ability. We'll get him in tomorrow. We think he can help this team. John (Beck) had an excellent camp. After last year, going with 2 is a concern. John had a good camp. Exceptional last night. He gives us security there. We think a lot of Case. We got to put a PS together. We'll make sure we got enough guys knowing our system so we're not scrambling like last year. Norris played his best last night. Been in the league 12 years. We'll give the young guy a chance first. I respect Moran. He did a heck of a job. Grimes had a good camp. Young player with a ways to go. Can't, unfortunately, keep them all. Holliday exceptional. Better football player than the last 2 years. He can play on offense. He can play gunner. Much more complete player. What he did in the preaseason was exceptional and his spot was well earned. Looking at a lot of things. We gotta get to our number today then look at the waiver wire tomorrow morning and see where we might find help. It could happen, it could not. I feel like I have 3 TEs with James. Dynamics(of the roster) different with 6 receivers and 6 corners. I feel good about the group. OD & Garrett excellent. Expecting James to play well. John (Beck) played better than he was practicing for a couple of weeks. Struggled in 3rd week or so. Everytime I give him the chance, he's handled himself like a pro and has started some games in this league, so it gives us comfort to fall back on. (Brandon) Harris has come along ways. Alan has fit right in with the role Jason (Allen) played. He knows Wade's D. Roc is a one year player. Missed all of last year. Played best ball of his preaseason last night. Sherrick was an excellent ST player for us and gave us an opportunity to get a young FB. Corner and Safety most difficult task for us. J.J. (Watt) will play with that brace for a period of time. Our ones practiced today and he practiced. He's on his way. All 3(Cody, Cushing, Andre) will be back. I'll freshen them up. Break this weekend and extra work Monday and normal off day Tuesday. Everyone should be there. Andre practiced today. Eddie Pleasant had a good camp. Young player. Showed some flashes. A ways to go. Pleased with his work. Young man we think a lot of but ran out of spots. Hope it works out, but we'll see what happens. (How concerned about the depth of O-line?): Like the group we have. We're not anywhere close to what I think we can be. Work in progress replacing 2 players but I like our camp. Guys are pushing guys for play time. Brooks and Jones continue to play well. Potential is excellent with the group. Not there yet but I like the makeup of the group.
The McMannis trade saves one of our CB's. Ball didn't look that great but Brandon Harris sucked last night. Getting Clutts meant Norris was a goner. Casey will probably play more TE now which allowed them to cut Brock and Supernaw. I still wouldn't count Holliday as a WR. It's more like 5 WR, 6 CB, 1 Return Specialist.
They still have Nolan and Demps ahead of him. 5 safeties seems a bit odd. Keo must be a hell of a ST player.
Final moves to get to 53: Troy Nolan cut; Demps & Keo your backup safeties. Rashad Butler to IR WR Jerrell Jackson waived/injured(will revert to IR if unclaimed; could then reach an injury settlement) Full list of moves made today
thought he was a nice back up safety, found his way to the ball. Will be a nice pick up for the titans or the cardinals.
Nolan has a nose for the ball but he doesn't play special teams well and is often out of place. I think Kubiak did Joe Marciano a favor by keeping special teams standouts Keo and Jesse Nading.
I'd rather have him over Alan Ball. I'm still very surprised Alan Ball made this roster. On a different note, Drayton Florence anyone?
Ball made the team because of Wade Phillips. I trust Wade when it comes to defense even though Ball looked bad in the 1st preseason game. As for Florence, no team will likely sign him until after Week 1 because as a vested veteran, he would have his contract for the whole season guaranteed.
Good luck Troy Nolan wherever you go, unless it's TEN, IND or JAC. Sorry you got cut for no-shows like Ball and Keo.
