If Melo were to come here, just imagine how satisfying it will be to see a rejuvenated Melo thrive here, not only to help the good guys win, but to further illustrate just how overrated Westbrick is
Melo likes to shoot above the break 3s, which is essentially his 3pt % at around 35%. Corner 3s he shoots too few to make reliable inference through the years. I looked at some other stats (forgot the sources of the stats) which indicate he shoots 3s best with no or few dribbles. https://stats.nba.com/player/2546/shooting/
The only way I can see this working is Melo starting at the 4 where Ryno was suppose to be. Trade Ryno + pick for Porter to upgrade the 3. Ego, Tucker, green and LMM off the bench. 9 Man rotation
I don't normally do this but I feel this need for a white hot take: Spoiler ACQUIRING MELO WOULD BE THE WORST THING MOREY HAS EVER DONE
What I would say is that the key to beating GS was athleticism and youth, we had them by the throats using defense. It was the offense that was abysmal. Anthony doesn't add any of that defense. But I'd be happy to see it go down for entertainment reasons. He's like a mystery air head, anything could happen.
I'd prefer Melo start at the 4, with Tucker off the bench. Then I'd also be comfortable starting Luc now to replace Ariza's defense, which will take some or most of our tax payer MLE. We could also then hold on to Ryno for one more year, when his expiring contract would actually become a big asset. Capela/Warm body (Nene retires, Lopez vet min?) Melo/Tucker/Ryno Luc/Green Harden/Gordon CP3/MCW/Melton Now run that ish back...
That makes us absurdly good . I'm hesitant about melo . I think he's got a **** ton of variance in that he could either be very very good for us or very very bad . The absurdly good comment was in the better scenario
Hardens defense is totally different from a few years ago and even though Melos defense is nothing to write home about he can at least halfway stay in front of his man. Ryno can not. Im all for this move. There are no better options but we better make the big man happy whatever it takes. The Dream is not done training him yet.
