This is my main gripe with this deal. We were told players would be lining up to play for us. Maybe even for discount. Instead we are overpaying for a 32 year old ok player. We are moving sideways, not forward, relative to our competitors.
A big key to this signing? When we play San Antonio in the playoffs, PJ Tucker would be higher on the "defend Aldridge" list than James Harden...
I seriously don't get the hate for this signing. If you were on board with Iggy, how could not you not be on board with Tucker, who is literally getting HALF of what Iggy got per year from the Warriors? Their 3-point shooting last season was essentially identical, Tucker is a better small ball/stretch 4 option because he can defend the 4 better and he's the superior rebounder by a pretty wide margin. Iggy is obviously the superior playmaker and has an edge as a perimeter defender and athlete, but there's not $8 million per year worth of difference between these two guys. If we all agree that Ariza and Beverley have been playing on bargain contracts the last few season (which they have been), then this is actually a massive steal, because he's a similar caliber player getting essentially the same deal in a much more lucrative market. Seriously, no matter how you look at it, this is a great signing by Morey. Clutchfans posters need to quit being such Debby Downers just because every signing isn't a superstar.
But he is not Corey Brewer, right? LOL I'm all good as long as we don't sign another Corey Brewer. I can be happy on another Shane Battier type player. Thanks for the info.
He's too busy saying um and you know during 1-minute video spots saying the same thing on ESPN and ESPN 2
Love the signing. He is a get in the oppositions' face, take no sh*t type of player that this team DESPERATELY needs. Hustle and defense. At a quick glance the 4 year deal is something to baulk at. But then you remember in 4 years we're nearing the end of Paul's era and Harden's prime, and will be due for a significant rebuild.
I agree, Ariza is starting to look like Corey Brewer. The Rockets need to find a way to trade him. I hate mediocrity.
LMA is soft as hell, shorter guys can successfully defend him if they are physical and push his soft ass around.
That typically happens later in free agency. Top players try to get their money first. We are a new team so players may not believe yet. We have to prove it on the court first to make them want to come here. What good players have given other teams a discount this free agency? Iggy made G St pay up. Blake got max, Mills got paid, Redick got paid.... Jus sayin. Let's see what our team looks like come Sep before we pass judgement.
