Socialism.....or at least socialist policies, there are countries where these policies do work, is all I'm saying.

Yes. You can socialize some things. Healthcare being a prime example. Many, many things you can or should not.

Well, I looked into some of Mamdani’s policies around price control....

1- Appointing members to the NYC Rent Guidelines Board to freeze rent

He can appoint 5 out of 9 board members, enough to swing votes and freeze rent increases for about 44% of NYC rental units. This isn’t some new radical policy; it’s a shift in direction within an existing legal framework. The board is already required by law to weigh landlord costs and building conditions, so there's protection against completely unreasonable decisions. Landlords can still challenge unfair hikes in court.

This is business as usual, just using the system differently. Freaking out over this is overblown.

Will it work? Maybe modestly. It’s no different in spirit from when Trump publicly warned private companies against raising prices, with the implied threat that the government would punish them if they didn’t fall in line.

Bottom line: Both Trump and Mamdani are playing from the same price-control playbook, just using different tools. One does it with implied threats, the other through lawful, structural mechanisms. I’ll take the lawful one any day.

    2- City-owned grocery stores

Mamdani’s plan would create 5 city-run grocery stores, one per borough. By avoiding rent and property taxes, they could offer lower prices and compete with for-profit chains.

It’s a small-scale effort, but if successful, it could expand. That said, city-run stores are unlikely to outperform major grocers who have the experience, logistics, and efficiency. Public operations, especially in retail, tend to be clunky.

This is probably even less effective than Trump’s price threats. At least corporations listened to him, fearing real consequences. The city opening a handful of stores won’t scare Costco or Walmart.

Again: Trump and Mamdani differ in approach, but both are attempting government-driven price control. One is likely legal; the other borders on abuse. But both models carry risks, not just inefficiency, but also corruption. When the government controls food supply, it opens the door for political weaponization, especially under bad leadership.

So yes, this one is more concerning. Not because of socialism, but because putting food distribution in government hands is something you need to be very careful about.

(Yes, this guy and MAGA are both socalists).

The fear mongering and attacks on him are ****ing disgusting. I say this as a fellow Muslim who dealt with the same issues while living in Indiana.

The funny thing is hes very pro lgbtq which is opposite of Islam. He doesn't allow his religious beliefs guide his politics which is great
