Sorry to hear about your loss, Surfguy. I know you feel really, really bad about it, but at least you had a great dog for several years. A lot of folks never experience that and simply don't understand the relationship that can develop. I've been lucky enough to have had a tremendous dog for 12 years, who just had a heart attack one day. Came home from work and there he was, on the living room floor. You deal with guilt. Could you have noticed something that might have given you more time with him? Beating yourself up is fruitless, but pretty impossible not to do to yourself. Just know that you truly went above and beyond what the vast majority would have done, and you did it for one of your best friends. I'm looking at a series of photographs I took of the Wonder Dog and my wife, back when we lived in Houston and they were both young and beautiful. OK, he was handsome, she was beautiful. Close ups of them laughing at each other. They're on the wall of my study, where I usually hang out online. He's never forgotten and still talked about, like I'm doing now. You won't get over it, but you'll remember the good times and the grief will pass.
I always got along very well with dogs...probably why I am such a big dog person. The three stories in the last page(surf, you and Deck) have inspired me to call my puppy(yall remember Roxie) over and sit here scratching her ears while Im reading the board. It's strangely comforting to me, and she seems to be enjoying it as well. lol....just typed all that and realized you probably meant my med problem. Go back to see the cardiac surgeon on Thurs...just resting and recuperating till then at least. Im sooo bored.!
I'm sorry.... Prayer sent for Zoe. You did all you could Surfguy. Not many people would sacrifice as much as you did and I respect you for it. R.I.P. Zoe.
She was lucky to have you as a friend, Surfguy. So sorry for your loss. My dog, Fonzie, is a Rhodesian Ridgeback too.
