How you going to get Shabazz with no draft picks?

I think you're missing the point of what they're trying to say. They're saying they see zero chance of him staying here. So basically you'd be getting him for one season and giving up a lot of the young talent we've accumulated. No one disagrees with how dominating he is. If I thought there was any chance he'd re-sign here, I'd be all for this trade. But I think people who want this trade are being blinded by his talent.

Is it really worth it to you if he's only going to be here for the one season?

Of course, maybe Morey has some information that we don't about why Howard would want to re-sign, because he sure seems to want this to happen. I sure hope that's the case. That would be the best possible scenario.

Needless to say, I'm beyond tired of players trying to tell management where they want to be. That's what free agency is for. It has its name for a reason.

Hypothetical question: If we could trade for DH, lose some future first round picks, young talent, and scola (I really don't know what a trade for DH would consist of), but he will leave Houston after next season, do you make the trade?

The CBA has changed due to that... It used to be leaving a million or 2 on the table.

Oh I know, but even with hindsight I'd do that trade 100% of the time.

That team had a legit chance at winning the title during a 3-4 year window, we didn't but that was really due to injury bad luck, which is something you can't protect from.

Of course you do. Then we'll be horrible and have a really good shot @ a top 3 draft pick. I think the 2014 draft will have more talent than this 2013 draft is (pretty weak draft overall, a few gems but not much else as it stands now).

I agree that some of this frustration from myself and other fans comes from the sting of being scorned, but the other part--and the majority of my source of indignation if you ask me--comes from a loss of faith in the system. You know, the one that said you could manage a team well, and no matter where you start you will end up better.

I've always felt like every trade we made with a few exceptions has turned out to be a winner. Yes T-Will was a mistake. So was Ariza. Aside from that though you'd be hard pressed to say any other Morey move was an all-and-all failure. They were either decent or beneficial transactions for our team. The problem was that, trying hard in the NBA is not rewarded at all; we run in place with tons of money thrown at analytics while teams like Golden State and the Clippers flush all their money down the toilet or at the golf course and get rewarded for their incompetence. How is that fair? Why should I still follow the NBA when a third of the NBA GM's don't care, twiddle their thumbs, and wait for the bizarre fortune of the NBA and the commissioner's office to smile upon them like some benevolent hand? The NBA's problem is not its stars; the problem is its foundation. Compared to all other major US sports, it has no legitimacy. There is no reason for me as a fan to follow the sport other than tradition.

Add Dwight and the SuperFriends on top of all of it, and hell yea the NBA is an infuriating sport to follow.

Different situation. Dwight Howard can only team up with CP3 next year.Teams are not gutting their teams to make room for multiple stars next offseason, so there's no ready-made Miami/NY type of situation where Howard and CP3 can go together. S&T no longer allow for extra-yr+max raises. Contract length shortened from 6->5/5->4. All the premier destinations have maxed out their caps.

In fact, Dwight Howard pouting likely has more to do with the fact that he actually believes he'll need to re-sign with the Rockets if he comes here. If he had other options, he'd simply bide his time and leave like Lebron, Bosh, and Wade did 2 years ago.

Which is possible in Houston if things work out the way we want them to.

... but wouldn't he be an Unrestricted Free Agent?

I'm so tired of the saga. I am being swayed by the "thin thread" argument. He just might stay. People who come to Houston seem to like it pretty well as a place to live.

If it doesn't work out, we've flushed our talent base and make a run for the top spot in the lottery.
