Rockets were an above avg team offensively but average team defensively. It would be alot easier to achieve more wins by getting defense than offense. There is only 1 ball. Getting Anderson does not necessairly improve the office just because he is a 4 and can shoot. If the rockets can get Paul George for Asik then that would be another story.

Asik for Anderson is what you call "settling". This is what N.O. just did by trading for a much overpaid and overrated Tyreke Evans. New Orleans is in deep doo-doo. We'll trade them Asik/Dmo and our 2014 first rounder for Anthony Davis if they want to deal. But Asik for Anderson? That's called settling.

I like Anderson but NO would need to add a sweetener to pry Asik away. The only other viable attainable player would be Jason Smith who I think is pretty solid. He could play some backup C perhaps but defense and rebounding would hurt when Dwight is out. He could also backup Anderson if D-Mo and/or Jones can cut it. He is also on a very reasonable contract for a 7 footer.

Or we could get a third team involved and maybe include Greg Smith in order to get a rotational big or a G/F type off the bench if Jason Smith isn't the answer. Anderson + sweetener (Smith) could work for us but Anderson's contract has too many years IMO. I really think Morey is waiting for the moratorium to end before making any sort of trade, if any.

Yeah, NO will deal us Anthony Davis. Makes perfect sense.

I want to see Asik and Dwight play together because I want to see what happens when two of the top rebounders from last season (total rebounds) play together.

You realize that Austin Rivers went down as literally the worst player in the NBA last season, right? If anything, we should require MORE pieces if the Pelicans expect us to take Austin Rivers off their hands.

The Rockets are probably the ones that don't want to pull the trigger. Asik is a Top 5 true center in the league right now behind Howard, Lopez, Gasol, Noah. He's getting better and still young. Morey probably wants more than just Ryan Anderson whose salary matches up perfectly. If Morey goes after Aldridge or Kevin Love, someone would have to take Lin to make the salaries match which might be really tough.

That also leaves us with very little money to resign Parsons.

    Top Stretch 4
    Dirk Nowitzki
    Kevin Love
    Ersan Ilyasova
    Ryan Anderson
    Chris Bosh

There aren't too many in the league...

They do have a need Asik in the worst way. They NOW MUST PAY for him --> it is the DM way --> Anderson AND Austin Rivers for him & Anderson. Rivers has had a hard start to his career maybe a new life as a Harden back up for 15+ mins. a night will help him and Harden --> cutting back on Harden's playing time only makes us better in the play-offs. AND gives DM an asset for later.

A little off topic, but who is a good defending / 3pt shooting pg? Lowry? I would like him back for sure!

Just sayin' - - if Asik were traded then signing (a guy I cannot abide) Hansbrough to pair up on the 2nd unit with Donuts makes some sense to me.

Anderson + very decent piece = Omer.

You realize Paul George (SF) is a break out star set for a max contract right?

Anderson's value isn't just that he can shoot, it's that people know he can shoot. That's one less defender that will clog up the paint and allow Harden, and Lin to penetrate and less double teams for Dwight down low.

Slow down now... I like Asik, but that's over rating him. No issue calling him a top 5 defensive center, but calling him a top 4 center is... just wrong

He had a terrible attitude when he had to compete with Dragic for minutes.

I added a poll to the thread (my selection is Yes, but only if they get more than Anderson).

I agree with those of you who think Asik is worth more than just Anderson and that Morey would want more than that. However, I think Asik is such a perfect fit for the Pelicans that the Rockets can indeed get more out of New Orleans (picks, move Lin's contract if they want to, a role player or rights to a player I am not smart enough to project them wanting...).

I also think Anderson is a perfect fit for the Rockets, who need a power forward, who have a solid back up center in Greg Smith, who love three shooting stretch fours, need that spacing desperately for their offense and have Howard, who Anderson has proven he fits perfectly next to.

I like the idea of waiting until the trade deadline (the Rockets are in a great position roster wise, and have earned the right and advantage of patience), and I think Asik and Howard playing together is possible AND that our young power forwards will develop (I'm a big DMo fan, and used to like Jones a lot when he was in college). HOWEVER -- I still think this trade will happen before the season. It may take a while, but the Pelicans NEED Asik, and they will eventually pay for him. And Anderson to the Rockets makes so much sense that NO will be able to eventually create a package Morey likes.

Clutch is right though -- Morey may get an angry call from Hinkie if the trade does go down.

I tend to agree with your assessment and it was my first reaction: move Asik now and get Anderson, it makes too much sense for both teams.

However, at this point I have a slightly different take. I think Morey is just being patient and wondering how this team is going to perform before he makes any more moves (unless something unbelievable comes into play)

Why not take a month to see if Howard will run (If howard runs hard for 30 great minutes, why not let Asik play 20).... If Lin plays well in pick in roll situations with Howard, while Harden is on the bench then lets keep rolling.

My prediction is Morey stands pat... if Houston, Pelicans or both get off to a slow start then we may see some movement. I'd be surprised to see any major moves before ball night.

You do know that Camby only played 24 out of 82 last season, don't you? Rest of them them he is injured.

Let's just wait for someone to get desperate. Someone always gets desperate.
