Switching out Jones for Randolph would put us over the top. You're just not a huge fan of Zachary. Which is understandable. Can't deny the obvious though.
Him and Dwight would not play well together. In Memphis, Gasoline is really the one who is the spacing but while Randolph revolves around the basket. He and Dwight would clog the lane, need a floor spacer at the 4
I would gladly welcome Z-Bo even if it meant giving up D-Mo AND T-Jones. Would he fit in our fast pace system though?
He is better than Jones, so it is a not bad idea to get him without giving up anything besides Jones with the salary fillings.. Demo? no way.
yeah the lanes would be clogged allright...teams can forget layups and short to mid range jumpers as well as winning the offensive rebounds with D12 and Randolph but this is all a pipe dream. Can't see Memphis doing this
If you think Memphis would just take Jones and fillers for Z-Bo then let me sell you some beach front property in Nebraska. Z-Bo is a proven playoff performer that can rebound in traffic with a good post game, knocks down his free throws and can hit the mid range jumper. Jones has not played all that well in the playoffs and mmmm DMO has a total 5 minutes of rough and tumble playoff experience under his belt as well. Z-Bo if healthy could potentially throw the rockets over the top IMO, but do you really think Memphis would send him to a conference rival?
His offense is good (although it hasn't been great these past 2 seasons), but his defense is just awful. He may be the worst defensive 4 in the entire league. Jones looks like Hakeem compared to Ryan Anderson. The Pelicans are probably my second-most watched team behind the Rockets, and Ryan Anderson gives up so many easy points it's not even funny. I can't say enough about how bad his defense is.
Also..... FYI, with the Rockets, ZBo is probably more of a small ball 5. Playing him at the 4 next to Howard primarily kind of destroys the entire philosophy of what the Rockets do entirely. He's only making 9 mil or so. You could maybe move him for Brewer and assets and not have to worry about taking on alot more in salary if anything at all. However if Memphis is moving him its most likely because they realize the season is lost, and need to rejuvenate for the future around Gasol/Conley, and they are trying to move salary to save $, and get them below the lux tax. The Rockets seem like the least likely team they'd want to deal with even after Memphis plummets and wants to throw the season to development. I could definitely see a Sacramento deal being enticing for both teams. McLemore & Collison for ZBo gets both teams kinda what they are probably wanting.
Agree with your all points, but Memphis look terrible right now, they may need go to a different direction. If they do, the rockets can offer them Jones, KJ McDanies, Sam Dekker, and a drift etc. We may have a better offer than Mavs or others as speculated in the report.
Even if this were true.. At 34 you don't want to give up too much... I mean unless you think you could win it all, because next year he'd probably produce even less where as a DMo/even a Jones would still have trade value. Obviously that's a given... But man if this were a few years ago... I'd drive DMo and Jones to the airport and I don't live in Houston anymore, lol
And also to my last point... if the Grizzlies are truly out of the playoffs (as obviously the Pelican's might be too given their start), it means the Kings might already be in the playoffs or on the cusp. I think they will definitely pursue the hell out of ZBo, and honestly a Cousins/ZBo lineup could be pretty devastating if used correctly (Cousins high post or stretched out to make plays). However the Rondo shooting issue would become more and more of an issue. McLemore could definitely be someone the Grizzlies put at the top of the list over what the Rockets are offering with Dekker, Jones, KJ, etc. And the Rockets aren't offering D-Mo, Capela, or maybe even Harrell as just throw ins for a veteran.
He can give us 15 and 10 most nights. He will help with those rebounds we always miss when Dwight goes for blocks. So, Yes. He's better than Terrence Jones.
