Lol, your posts... You should just change your name to Bo Outlaw and join the Clippers fan board, or just about any other nba forum for that matter.
I agree to some extent. But, again, we beat them in 7, it's not like Butler upsets Kentucky in the NCAA. We beat them in a 7 game series. I think we are the better team, as objective as can be. Other than that, it's all "opinion" to me.
At their definition Dallas was the better team, but Rondo and injuries kept them from winning. Blah, blah blah...
i got your point and i dont disagree. but to me, when a 7-game series is fully played out, 'better' isnt subjective any more. the winner is clearly proven better - overall. it has objectively measured - by the games of the series. that's why we play the games and let the outcome decide not all the analyses on paper, no?
I didn't read the article. But I think what he meant was that division champion is a meaningless thing. I actually agree with that. I've been saying that for a long time. Division title in the NBA has almost zero meaning beause all teams in the same conference play 95% of the same opponents. Divisions are pretty much arbitrary. If you took away the division title tie-breaker, the Clippers would have had the HCA due to head-to-head records, which would have been huge in this series.
This is such shaky logic. Who is to say the Rockets don't drop game 1 again, then win Games 3+4 because now they are at home. Anything could have happened here, and it's impossible to say the Rockets couldn't have had a different dynamic had the series started in LA... Heck, if the Rockets matched up with the Spurs I think they would have had more energy and more momentum leaving that series (and yes, I believe they would have beaten the Spurs...)
When you're talking about having a winning record separated by 0%, 5% difference in opponents is major.
This dude Zach Lowe also thought the Mavericks were better than the Rockets in the beginning of the season. He has some interesting takes on mascots though. Maybe he should stick to that.
I don't think the better team always win in a series. I do believe if you're clearly the better team, you'd always win in 7 games. But teams close in ability would depend on some other factors like luck. That said, for as much as I believe in luck, and as much as Morey believes in luck (last year tweeted how we were unlucky), scoreboard is still scoreboard and no one records win probabilities in the history books. The fact that we lost last year shows that Portland was better, and that we won this year shows us we are better than Clippers/Spurs/Mavs. That is that.
Damn, Carl, it must be exhausting to have to always try to come up with the "contrary" take on every little point raised. You and Skip Bayliss are likely on the verge of collapse after these first two Rockets series. Get plenty of rest and drink your fluids, because we need you to come back strong after the WCF and tell us how the worst team got lucky again.
I agree with this. It reminds me of that recent article that posted about how many championships "should" your team have by now. Imo, in the NBA you have all the wins you deserve and deserve all the wins you have. And, in fact, that is the whole point of sports and contrived competitions of all kinds -- that you set up an arena with established rules and an even playing field so that you can measure and determine who the best is. The best is the team that manages to navigate those rules and come out the victor. None of the coulda and shouldas matter. Not only do that not matter, but they undermine the purpose of the enterprise altogether. What's the point of playing the games if the outcomes don't tell you who is the best?
I didn't say that if they had the HCA, they would have won. I am just saying that it would be a big factor. In fact, I posted in a thread (no time to search) when someone argued that the Clippers would have HCA by virtue of better conference records and was corrected because of the division title. I commented that the division title in the NBA scheduling was the pretty much meaningless but I said I wasn't complaining because with these teams so close, the HCA might make a difference somewhere. It turned out that we did get to play a Game 7 at home. So I am not just talking from hindsight. HCA is important if the series goes to 7 games.
I'm not attacking you, moreover I am attacking the talking heads on ESPN who say "if it went this way" or "if it went that way" to justify why a team lost. If we lost the series and said Bev/DMo would have been difference makers our cries would fall on deaf ears.
Blaming on bad luck is what Morey needed to keep his job ... Of course, please ..., everybody posting on this board knows BASKETBALL involves luck, basketball is a game of percentage, that by definition involves luck, no one disputes that. It is as obvious as Sun rises in the morning. I don't even know what to say at this point, it's like trying to explain to people why black is black, white is white. Let's try this ... the Houston Rockets are a BETTER team at the game of Basketball than the Clippers. Do you not agree? We are not talking about style points, degree of difficult, that's diving, gymnastics. We are talking about Basketball. The better team wins a 7 game series. The Clippers had 3 tries and blew it. How could you still believe they are the better team. That's beyond me.
We had the same regular season record in a tougher division with every injury imaginable, and we beat them in a 7 game series. And we're the better team moving forward in the off-season. The framing of this as a Clippers collapse rather than a great win by the Rockets is starting to annoy me.
Extremely slightly. Each team plays 4 games against division teams and 3 games against two conference teams of from each of the other divisions in the same conference. So it is a total of 4 random opponents in a 82-game season, that's less than 5%. It only takes one great division team to prevent you from winning the division (e.g. Warriors). I think conference records should be the more important tie-breaker. Again, I am not complaining because the Rockets got the benefit of it this year. We could be on the other side and I would complain louder.
