I mean i don't know how to respond to this, it's just completely untrue. He put up 3.9 VORP his 1st 5 years and then 3.3 alone in year 6, his best ever BPM was 0.4, he shot up to 3.8, his best on offense was his 2nd year at 1.4, he shot up to 4.9. The previous 3 years his PER was around 15, he shot up to 22

Mark wasn’t mediocre. He could shoot 3s. Could dribble drive from the perimeter. Could handle the ball for a big. There’s several players that gradually evolved into stars. Jaylen Brown, Dejonte Murray, Jrue, Demar Derozan just to name a few. And if you go back Steve Nash. Gradual evolution

i just showed you the numbers, his metrics were all pretty similar years 1-5 and then all of a sudden they became allstar level

I did not use those advanced metrics. You did. Reminder to you advanced metrics is not a complete representation or assessment of a player. Have you ever watched him play his first 5 years? He certainly was not mediocre as you say.

I don’t go out of my way to watch the bulls no, it’s impossible to keep up with every player on every team unless you’re dedicating 10+ hours a day to it. He was widely considered a draft bust though, and was salary filler in the Mitchell deal. Nobody thought he would become what he did out of the blue

If were going for Lauri, we need to trade JG, Rockets cant afford 2 starting lineup that cant defend that much.

Well whatever the case he was not mediocre. I am not sure who these people are who considered him a bust. He was always an offensively talented and skilled big with defensive limitations. Played heavy pick and roll in his first few years. But has been used to move around off the ball more in the last few years combined with being the num 1 or 2 option on a not so good Jazz team. Wiggins wasn't mediocre or "suck" as you say he does either. He just wasn't a true number 1 the way MIN wanted him to be. He went to the Warriors, understood his role, and played within the offense and won a ring.

    Or a starting 4 that has the size of a 5 but can't defend 5 4 or 3 positions.

Honestly, I feel like Markkanen is the likely outcome for Jalen - It's just going to take him longer to develop but when he does, he's a valuable piece.

Really all he has to do is improve his shooting 3-4% from both 2 & 3 .... It seems so simple that he has to eventually put it together.

It's the "in the mean time" part that annoys me.

However you pick at it dude, there are no analysts who predicted these things. These were ALL considered disappointments that “are what they are” and their teams were happy to put them in trades or called a bust (Suggs especially was going to be dumped). Wiggins was disappointing for half a decade and he achieved the highest peak here (championship and arguably the best player in the finals). That’s not all, but he again went back to nothingness right after (another anomaly).

Anomalies are common in life except in perfect systems.

If Jalen shot 3-4% better from 3 he’d be much better than Lauri without even improving his 2PT%. He’s already giving you 20 extra games (35% more games) availability per season which is massive.

OK. If that’s the case, the offer to Jalen should be what Lauri got for his post-rookie deal: in the $15-17M range. Would Green take that?
I think that would be acceptable risk for the Rockets, to wait for a Markanen-like MIP miracle…

Markannen was a mid high lottery pick a pick that could turn All Star but did not necessarily have to.

Green has lot more pressure to live up to.

Lauri is a true 7 footer with skills, size really rarely goes away as quickness and athleticism do.

Never heard of shrinking when dudes are in their 20s and 30s.

Meh. I get the availability point, but Markkanen averaged 23 points on 48/39/90 splits (.63 TS%) last season with 8 rebounds. Green averaged 19 points on 42/33/80 splits (.54 TS%) with 5 rebounds. Jalen isn't close to Markkanen at the moment.

lol are you joking? Jalen Green hitting 38% of 7+ 3PT attempts means Markkanen is only marginally better at shooting - really his only excellent skill. Then 20+ games Lauri is going to miss. Then Green is averaging double the assists too which is 4-6 more points created. Then being 5 years younger too?

No sane GM is picking the guy who’s going to play 55 games in this scenario. For what? For 3 rebounds? lol come on give me a break.

we’re not talking about at the moment. we’re talking about Green shooting 38% on 7+ attempts so Lauri can shove his shooting.

Also assists are infinitely more important than rebounds and you ignored that. Lauri has never averaged more than 2 assists. Green averaged 4+ and on the way up. This is the part Lauri can never overcome.

finally, you clearly don’t get the availability point. You think that’s less important than 3 rebounds? Your analysis is out of order.

You're being really weird at the moment, and you analysis is all over the place. First, Green is nowhere near shooting 38% from 3. You said 3 - 4%, but that is 5%, which is a massive, unrealistic (though not impossible) improvement. Second, assists aren't "infinitely" more important than rebounds, and Green has never averaged 4+ assists a game for a season. You're also missing a ton of other data points -- Markkanen averaged a much better VORP, BPM, WS, etc. Even taking availability into account, Green is more than an improved 3 shot away from reaching Markkanen.
