Wasn't this the argument for Reed and Bregman?

I'll take .220 over .036, wouldn't you? From what we know and expect, Bregman and Gurriel are going to adjust fine but why rush and cost the team valuable at bats? I know the Valbuena injury would have forced the team's hand on Bregman anyway so its inconsequential but they called him up before then.

Yes. And it's still a valid argument

What about Colby Rasmus who is hitting .056 in his last 54 ABs? All Bregman needs is one hit in his next 15 or so ABs and he's on pace to beat him.

Rasmus has two hits since Bregman has come up and he missed two of those games.

Well Gurriel is 32. If he can't hit now you have wasted time and money. Might as well find out ASAP.

How foolish would it be not playing Gurriell while Valbuena is hurt?

The lineup already has multiple pitchers.

If they're planning on keeping him in A for a week, and then AA for another week, I'll be at a complete loss for words. Even though I hate that we weren't just a little more aggressive yesterday, I can understand that we didn't want to mortgage our future in a year where it was clear top-level prospects weren't getting the kind of value we would like. However, if we drag our feet on calling Gurriel up, that will tell me that this organization has very little urgency about this season, and that would be incredibly frustrating.

Gurriel has not played organized baseball for *over* a year.

Great take, though.

I really don't get the impatience. We b**** when players come up and struggle, b**** when they don't come up quick enough...what's the answer?

He's never played in the MLB, and some Cuban players have struggled with the transition (Castillo recently). And he hasn't had a spring training--he last played in what, 2015? When MLB players skip all of spring training (much less half the season, or an entire year), they always take a few weeks to get seasoned--minimum.

There are plenty of reasons to give him time to acclimate. Especially if Marwin will be back in the next few days and Valbuena in a week?

They would only have urgency if they thought they were in trouble and rushing him up was the quick fix. Baseball is rarely about the quick fix. Also, I think the Astros front office is very cocky and is trusting the guys at the MLB level to win.

The answer is not already having multiple .200 (or worse) hitters in the lineup. It's gets to the point of how much worse could it get.

It would also help if touted prospects would perform. Three players (Springer, Correa, Lance) of 10 have worked over the last 3 years. Is that a good percentage? We can't even quite consider Feliz good yet with his 4+ ERA.

We probably should've upgraded the lineup by one bat over the offseason, but that ship already sailed

IF.... we don't know when they'll be back.

I get the issues. They're injury-related, and waiting on prospects to perform. 25 ABs is not an adequate sample on Bregman. It sucks, and I wish it was different, but he has looked competent outside of his last 2 ABs. The ball will begin to fall.

But why do you assume Gurriel will perform if we skip over his "spring training" having sat on the bench for so long? Why is he different? Or are you just hoping his next 25 ABs are better than Bregman's next 25? Really feels like a crapshoot that you're advocating for. In that crapshoot, I'll go with the guy who has been playing in the last year.

Not going to address last offseason..like you said, old news, irrelevant. (Btw, if we had, we'd just be here b****ing about the stupid front office not giving White, Reed, Bregman a chance and wasting money.)

I'm hoping the team has some idea. Valbuena wasn't even going to hit the DL initially--seemed on the minor side

Ok, I get that, which is why I'm not saying he needs to be called up to Houston tomorrow. I'm saying if he's clearly seeing and hitting the ball well in A, push him through to AA and AAA sooner rather than later. Being a dick to me or anyone else doesn't change the fact that this lineup needs help.....even if Valbuena and MarGo come back soon.

There is no way Gurriel is ready. His first game in the GCL, he struck out twice... And he rarely ever strikes out. He came back strong the next night, but the guy has a way to go to get his rhythm back. He absolutely needs a couple weeks of practice in the minors.

But what qualifies "seeing and hitting the ball well in A" ? 1 game? 3? I'm sure you know the issue with sample sizes like that in baseball as much as anyone here. Hell, Bregman was crushing the ball in AAA for multiple weeks...but it didn't necessarily mean he was ready to crush it in the majors immediately.

A week at a level is nothing and does show that the org is pushing him incredibly fast. Just because you *could* shave a few days off that doesn't mean you should.

this signing got BUST all over it.... at least he'll be productive for a season, or 2 the most, and that's wishful thinking.

I think you've missed spreading hate through a few threads on the board. Might want to pick up your pace so you can spread your ignorance to the world.

I mean.... it is bliss, right?

Wanting to rush Gurriel is mostly a biproduct of the dire situation the lineup is currently in.

We'll see how long we're able to tread water before players return.
