This is simply just not true - at least right now here in 2022. In fact, Mancini statistically has fared better
at 1B this season. Historically he has been average or better there - for those wondering he’s been pitiful when having to play the OF. Given his very slow speed, don’t think anyone is surprised there.

Anyhow, I am starting to wonder…are you related to Yuli or Dusty? Do you have some type of O/U season stat bet riding on Yuli? Please help me understand.

FYI Baseball Savant has Yuli at NEGATIVE SIX outs above average (OAA) at 1B this season. First time since 2017, when he was relatively new at 1B, that he had negative OAA (still it was only -1). He had 6 OAA in 2019, 3 in 2020 and right at zero/average in 2021.

Don’t like BS? Fangraphs has him being bad at 1B this year as well with their DWAR calc being significantly negative -pretty certain positional value factors into the negative figure but regardless when compared against previous seasons it pretty much backs up what BS shows…he was at the top of the pack, a gold glove caliber 1B in 2019 and 2020 but he started declining last year before nosediving this year.

Still refuse to face reality…please explain what you have seen this season that makes you go “wow he is saving us SO many runs at 1B with his defensive play!” and save yourself the embarrassment of looking like a fool and listing all those scoops! News flash, no 1B in the MLB that plays the position regularly is bothered by the ball bouncing on a throw to 1B!!!

If we were going strictly on numbers, Diaz should pretty clearly be ahead of Yuli against RHP. If Brantley were to come back, the pragmatic postseason roster wouldn't have Yuli on it. He will be regardless, it would be stupid to risk that kind of clubhouse reaction with such a respected player, but he is absolutely a legacy player at this point, not our best everyday option.

Yuli is a good defensive 1B, he's not the Adam Everett of first baseman.

He WAS a good defensive 1B…back in 2018 and 2019 he was great before a steady decline since 2020. Since then, he’s been headed toward the bottom of the list for full time 1B, and as of this current moment, he has definitely arrived.

Edit: I think having such s***** defensive 1B after Bagwell lowered this board’s expectations so far defensively at 1B that they have managed to convince themselves Yuli is the Adam Everett of 1B.
