Hanging out, of course! The quality of posts in the GARM, on average, has dropped off in recent years. Some of us don't feel like wading through the garbage. Also, some of us feel like there are a lot better basketball analysts than ourselves on this board , and there were also a few years where I hardly ever got to so much as see one of the games on TV. Didn't feel qualified to comment. But, if the post quality, on average, would return to where it was in the late 90's, I would at least look at it more.
Are you talking about the GARM or the D&D? Yeah, I understand. I was really referring to the people who sign up, then immediately start posting in the hangout and/or D&D before the GARM. Like YoYao did.
Off topic but I don't want to start a new thread... Whatever happened to the poster named 'bamaslammer' ? Did he get banned or something? I just remember this guy used to get under my skin. For example, he once tried to tell me that Radiohead played really simple music and everyone of their songs was in 4/4. Eventually he admitted he had only heard a few of their songs.
That is usually a pretty good sign that that poster has been on the BBS before but under a different user name (what an awkward sounding sentence). Harrisment, Yea, I wonder what happened to bamaslammer or as SamFisher called him Yosemite Sam. Probably got banned because he was pretty vitriloic (sp?) even in the D&D Forum. I remember reading some of his posts about music - he had pretty eclectic tastes. All I remember was that he liked jazz music. Interesting he would say that about Radiohead - guess he has never listened to "Kid A" then.
The great thing about YoYao is he was convinced everyone loved him when in actuality we were all obsessed with degrading every part of his being. It was fun for a while then he just tried to drag it out. By the time the OCP thing came along I was tired of the attention w**** craze.
I think most did love him. It might not have been in the conventional way, but it was an appreciation of who he was. His comments and self posted pics were off-beat, and so was the 'appreciation' that I had, and hope most others shared. I laughed at his posts and some of the subsequent posts about him, but it was never with any malice or ill-will. In fact someone who is so unaffected and able to be themselves, even when being themselves is a bizarre obsessed freak, then I have to admire him, and he earned a lot of respect from me.
But that was the problem, I think. Just who really was this guy? I remember reading somewhere that his real last name was Miller. If you remembered the first pic that he posted of "himself" (the infamous cereal with the socks on), it looked like nothing of the pics he posted of "himself" later including one in which he was bare-chested. You might be asking yourself, "What the hell is Manny babbling about?" I think that there is a very good possibility that the man behind YoYao (this Miller guy) just took random pics of Asian teenage boys and pretended that was who he was. He created the greatest gimmick ever in the history of this BBS. But he got careless and shot his wad. So, I laugh when people talk about him and how they loved him posting "his pics" and using words like "fomfotable" - acting like that is the way the guy behind the computer screen really looked like and talked like. I just think it was too contrived and fake to be really taken seriously. As Sammy said, if he was allowed back, he would not contribute to much of anything except to continue to be the willing butt of jokes to those posters that for whatever reason thought that stuff was funny.
thanks for clarifying, Manny... some of us weren't around that much at the time and missed parts of the story. I remember wondering why YoYao was banned... thinking that just a few eccentricities or language barriers might be amusing, and were, but were no reason to ban a poster. Having a real last name of "Miller" puts a different spin on things... if you're going to troll like that, be more subtle about it. Or, better yet, get a life.
Actually, I think he got banned because Clutch discovered that he had already been banned under a different screen name for posting hardcore p*rn images in the Hangout.
wonder what messed this individual up so much that he has nothing better to do than hang around us and try to mess with us by doing stuff you're obviously not supposed to do.
Isabel and anyone else who is not familiar with this story: Here is a quote from Clutch regarding YoYao: "YoYao: You know, I originally kicked YoYao temporarily. I was never comfortable with how liberally he posted "his" (as far as we know) photo, especially when he encouraged people to mock it, nor with how many sexually-driven topics he posted, but none of that got him tossed. He obviously was here a good while with that shtick. His "photoshop" thread was removed by the request of some who were not comfortable having their photos mocked, so he followed that up with 4 new Hangout topics in a span of a couple of minutes, including new threads for "what happened to my photoshop thread?" and "new photoshop thread". I'm like, "This guy needs a breather". But then he re-registered and started spamming users through the board via email to get them to come to his message board. Then he posted it on the board. If you can't see why this is a big no-no, then your narrow view of what I do here is really much more narrow than I thought. Furthermore, when I kicked that second account, I realized YoYao was a previous member of this board that was banned for posting hardcore p*rnography pictures in the Hangout. However, since you like how he said 'fomfortable', I guess he should have permanent posting rights here."
That is ashame. That might also explain why when I went to a Rockets summer league game where he had said he was going to be, he wasn't there. I never had the whole story. I am like you, and thought that it was getting old quickly so I kind of stopped following it. More accurately I thought he was overhyped. Now to find out that he was never the YoYao I thought, is like having a knife stabbed in my heart and twisted by someone in my own family... Or maybe it is just slightly annoying that I was duped, but don't really care now, since I didn't worry about it too much before.
YoYao rules, and everyone who does not agree just does not get it. Oops, just scrolled up a few posts. Disclaimer to my statement above: Everyone who does not agree just does not get it unless the person who does not agree is Clutch.
I forgot about that thread. Seriously, if anyone ever gets bored, read through that whole thread. There are a couple of monumental smackdowns laid down by Clutch. MONUMENTAL, I tell you.
