Because they're both European, very pale, and blond ? I guess they both slash well, but Schrempf was a much better shooter than Kirilenko, but couldn't play as good of D. Both good players, but not all that similar except on the surface.
Remember when he took apart Griffin in the summer league a few years ago? That was my first clue that something was really wrong with EG, and really right about AK47. Obviously, I don't watch a lot of college basketball.
i must break you. yeah, weird on hakeem, maybe he did it in that season where he was the only guy ever with 200 blocks and 200 steals (3.7 bpg and 2.5 spg). figure he had to throw a 5 assister in there once in a while. of course that was more than 10 years ago so who knows if he actually did it. kirilenko is good, but i don't see him ever having a dominating offensive game. he plays in a system that has always generated open mid range jumpers and for his part he hits them fairly well, but lets not get crazy with dirk comparisons. dirk can shoot from anywhere, drain from anywhere, and post up and drive. AK47 is a monster on D though. like someone else said, couldn't believe when i found out his number was actually 47. figured they just added that on to the nickname.
First, let me say that I think AK47 is a great, great player. He's a 3/4 tweener that changes the game in a lot of ways besides offense. If you could pair him with 2 great scorers I think you would go far in the playoffs. And if he ever gets a consistent jumpshot he could be a top 10 player, maybe even top 5. I would LOVE to have him on the Rocks. Talk about shot intimidation. Secondly, on Hakeem, he HAS had a "5x5". Matter of fact, he came close to having a "5x5" x two(quintuple double). It came in his famous quadrouple double game. I saw that game, and even saved the boxscore from the paper for a while, but no longer have it. He had like 18 points, 14, or 15 rebounds, 10, or 11 blocks, 10, or 11 assists, and 7 steals. I'm more positive on the steals number(99%) than the others because I remember how I was amazed at how close he came to the quin-dub. But the other numbers are a close approximation. Like I said, I kept the box. Heck, he may have had more. He was an excellent shot blocker, and ball thief, and I'm sure there were several games where he had 5 of both. The assists would be the rarest occurence for Dream. He was not a very good passer until later in his career.
For those of you who didn't know, Clutchfans also has a main page. On that main page you may find a link to the Clutchfans stats site and on that site they have the career stats of every player to ever wear a Rocket uniformlink They also have the game by game stats of some of the more reacent Rockets players. After looking through Hakeem's game stats(from 91-92 to 93-94 becase that is the earliest game by game stats the had) I found that he accompished the 5x5 4 times and came 1 steal/block away from it 6 other times durring that three year period.
wow, i knew there were season by season breakdowns, didn't know we had game by game in the players section. this site is crazy in depth. as for hakeem, the man was just a freak. 4 5x5's in 3 years and almost 10 of them? and then it was only done twice in the next 10 years by everyone in the whole league?
If they don't know or acknowledge Hakeem as achieving the 5x5 over the past decade, I wouldn't put much stock that those were the only people to do it. If they missed a great like Hakeem, odds are they missed a few others too
I'm not sure. Who would it be? The 5 points and boards are basically meaningless. The question will boil down to who can get at least 5 steals, assists, and blocks in the same game, with blocks and steals being the least common combination. Over the last 10 years I think Jordan, Pippen, Clyde, Malone, Robinson, Magic, and Barkley all are possibilities. But I wouldn't be surprised if none of them ever did it. Getting at least five blocks and steals in one game would have been tough for most of them. I would go with Robinson as the most likely, then Malone. Just highlights what a special player Hakeem was.
Tonight AK47 get 30 points (9/12 FG), 16 boards, 3 assists, 4 steals and 4 blocks for 76ers. What a monster!
