The "neighborhood play" is an unwritten rule. Umps will give the shortstop a step or so of leeway when crossing the bag & receiving the throw from the 2nd baseman while turning the doubleplay. You're right, it's to keep the SS from getting hurt.

Is a player credited with an assist in basketball if they pass to someone on an inbounds play and they immediately score?

Since most people right hand dominant, therefore making most baseball hitters hit right handed, therefore making the batter have the matchup advantage against left handed pitchers....why are left handed starting pitchers so overvalued? Shouldn't they have the matchup disadvantage the majority of the time?

You know when you eat something really salty, you become thirsty. I believe that salt draws water to it. (???Sodium chloride is hydrophilic???) I guess dehydration kills the slug. I heard or read that somewhere.

Query: What's a flame in a fire compose of? Does it contain matter? Does it have mass?

Why is the blue flame hotter than the red one.

Hair gets greasy because your body naturally produces oils. Usually on skin, oils are rubbed off constantly by clothing, furniture, etc. Hair provides a place for oil to gather up and causes this greasiness especially left unwashed.

So it's just only light and heat. When you look at a flame, what you see is the light and what you feel is the heat. I guess there's nothing more to it.

The blue flame is where the chemical reaction is operating most efficiently... red, orange, yellow is where the chemical reaction is not so efficient. That is, the fuel is not being completely consumed and you get carbon (soot), carbon dioxide, and carbon monoxide being produced at much greater rates than in the blue. The inefficiency and the additional carbon production reduce the heat, though it is hard to stick your hand in a red flame and a yellow flame and tell a big difference.

The stuff I usually see is highly inefficient with lots of carbon production...

Sort of... but the flame is actually the gases produced by the process of fire changing a solid to a gas, so it does have mass.

Okay. I see. So the distinct shape of a fire (like a wall of fire or the flame from a bunsen burner) is the shape of the gas that is burning? Interesting.
