Oh, I've seen him live a few times. He's good. (He's a New Zealander, so of course I've heard of him.)
Each one of these is outstanding. Great songs front to back. COWARD - COWARD Sugary guitar pop; kind of a combination of The Cars, Weezer, and Motley Crue. THE KATIES - THE KATIES AC/DC meets the Posies.
Great thread! Geggy Tah - Sacred Cow One of the oddest CD's I have. They had a song on a BMW commercial a few years back. George Clinton - If Anybody Gets Funked Up. No one seems to pay much attention to his most recent stuff. Global Village - Sugar What? Here, I am biased. But it does fall under the "nobody knows about" category.
The American- Angie Aparo. The only song from it that got any play time on radio was Spaceship (track 2)... but the whole album is awesome. I like almost every song on it, and that doesn't happen often. But don't take my word for it... read some Amazon reviews. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00004NHDD/ref=ase_inktomi-musicasin-20/103-2566558-9327010 I PITY ANYONE WHO DOESN'T BUY THIS ALBUM.
Morrissey - Vauxhall and I Anybody who hasn't heard it and considers themselves a music lover must hear this before they call themselves that again.
"Hey. Aren't you supposed to be at work?" And the horns started to kick in. And the shoes started to squeak... Sad to say, I think I still own a copy of this on cassette. In my grad-school days, I used to go through the cheap tape bin at Sound Exchange. Sure, you wouldn't get the best stuff or a CD, but darn it, it was only 99 cents and you'd get something new to listen to for that next long road trip. Found the album you mentioned, and remembered how much fun the "Ponderous" song used to be. (well, the operator who talks in a language you can't understand is pretty cool) Unfortunately, the rest of the album is the worst thing I have ever heard, IMO. If they were just being silly and weird like on Ponderous, it would be OK. But, no, they had to get all sentimental and philosophical while trying to maintain the sound of Ponderous. There was one cover on there that was OK; the rest of it was unlistenable and just scary. Oh well. Now we come to the really weird part of my dream. The part where I know how to tap dance, but I can only do it while wearing golf shoes...
Snake River Conspiracy-Sonic Jhihad Really great cd. It sounds kind of like industrial triphop. hard to describe but it's one of my all time favorites.
Morrissey is someone that I have been meaning to buy his CDs since I am almost done getting all the Smiths albums. He (Morrissey) rules!
Jeff knows everything music...so i probably can't slip one by anyone... but Oleta Adams first album was great... and there was a group from Dallas called Jackopierce who released a couple of albums back in the early 90's that still get playing time in my car.
RM95's Girl and I love Jackopierce. Check out Zac Maloy, Max, I think you'd like him. www.zacmaloy.com It's got some samples.
wow..the cycle of political disagreement and pop culture alignment continues!!! does jackopierce still play live at all??
by the way..you're approaching 10,000 posts!! we need to celebrate over suds and pizza at Nick's when you hit that magical number!
Hahaha...might have to do that. Maybe you should drive to Austin on Friday for the Austin Rocketball Association meeting to celebrate. I guess my eyes were playing tricks on me. I went to www.jackopierce.com, and they've been broken up since 1997. Still love their music though.
No way!! Most of the album is silly and goofy. The only really serious track on the album was the last one where he comes home and there is a dead guy in his back yard... "Watch out baby, run for your life He's coming on through, strong as a knife Don't stand up, just stand back Cuz Nardo's having a Spaz Attack"
I might be able to slip one by Jeff with these two selections, but then again, probably not.. I was going thru my old albums last night(you *do* remember what those are right?) and I ran across a couple that definitely fits in this thread... Does any body remember, or have you even heard of...Contraband? Contraband----Self titled (Contraband) one of the lesser known "supergroups" Bobby Blotzer Michael Schenker Share Peterson Tracii Guns and some no name singer... and another, BBM---Around the Next Dream which consisted of Gary Moore Ginger Baker Jack Bruce these are actually pretty good albums, not as good as one would expect from a so-called supergroup, but thats ok cause these are two very obscure "supergroups" that are only considered so because they have people that got famous from other bands and only teamed up for a short time...then normally went back to their old groups.. but I guarantee very few people have heard of em, so they fit right in here... EDIT: oh yeah!..I just thought of another that is obscure and hilarious as hell!! Hayseed Dixie---A Hillbilly Tribute To AC/DC just like it sounds....AC/DC classics performed by a bluegrass band...freaking LOL hilarious if you can put up with the fiddles...
I heard that on Stevens and Pruitt a while back and was laughing my ass off...I saw the album at Best Buy a few months ago and almost bought it... You haven't listened to "Back in Black" until you've heard it with Banjos and fiddles...
I know many of you Austin people know this Band, but many other people do not. The Gourds- Cow Fish Fowl or Pig
