Oh boy this topic turns my already drab life even more upside down where to start. 1.Stockton Shot (obligatory) 2.Bryant Yamming on Olajuwon (99) 3.Mobley getting the game-winning layup blocked by Shaq (99) 4.Seattle coming in to Houston and sweeping the rockets at the Summit. 5.Barkleys arm going limp against the Jazz. 6.Clydes 6 point game against the Jazz to close out his career. 7.Seeing Shaq throttle Hakeem for some years now. 8.Game 7 loss to seattle because of David Robinson. 9.Losing streak to the Magic. 10.Missing the playoffs with 45 wins.
It was in the fourth quarter and the Lakers were up huge and I think Fox shot a three he missed and Dream jumped for the board and Kobe must have out jumped Dream by atleast 7inches but the Refs called over the back on Kobe.
Yeah that has to be #1 in Houston sports History. My Astros and Oilers moments would be 2. Astros leaving the bases loaded against the Braves in 99 3. Oilers having home field advantage in 93 and blowing a 4th quarter lead to Kansas City 4.Oilers choking in Denver in the playoffs 5. Kevin Brown sets a playoff record by striking out 17 Astros 6. Trading Warren Moon for a backup QB 7.Trading Freedy Garcia and Carlos Guiien to rent Randy Johnson for a season 8.Julio Lugo's errors in last seasons playoffs
I can't accept it. Even for the Jazz, that was horrible. I've watched that play over and over. Drexler's with arms flailing and legs pumping to get lose, to no avail, as Malone is bear-hugging him--two hands around the chest--not letting him go. They way I look at it is they said, "what do we have to lose. they still have to win Game 7. Let's cheat real bad this time." my worst moment. Like Batman Jones says, I just can't get sad much anymore about the outcome of a game, now that we have a title under the belt. Everything else is gravy, and I tend to forget all the prior pain as just part of what it took to feel the WIN!!!! So, my worst moment is hands down the Barkley career-ending injury. He cried, and I felt like crying for him. That's just not the way he deserved to go out.
Yeah you must be. Just because the refs let them get away with it doesn't mean it's legit. Is Shaq travelling legit since they don't call it? How about standing in the lane for 7 seconds? Why is there even a rule book? Anyways, that Stockton shot is without a doubt the worst moment ever. It still pisses me off like nothing else.
Stockton's shot really hurt. But here are a couple of others that led to a lot of extended pain. The day during the 85-86 season that starting point guard John Lucas was suspended after testing positive for cocaine. Robert Reid takes over at point guard for the remainder of the season and the playoffs and the Rockets fall to Boston, 4-2, in the finals. If Lucas is there do we win the series? The day during the next season when starting shooting guard, Lewis Lloyd, who possessed one of the most beautiful high arching rainbow jumpers I have ever seen, and his back up, Mitchell Wiggins, both were suspended after testing positive for cocaine. Losing two starters and one of your best back ups (a defensive minded guard) without any compensation plagued the Rockets for years. We had a great front court but a horrendous back court. These were some pretty dark basketball days. These events, as much as any other reason, are why it took eight seasons to get back to the finals.
The Oilers had a lot more painful moments than the Rocks. That Buffalo one was of course number 1. That loss to KC by over-the-hill Montana's TD pass, and Elway's winning drive were way up there. But my worst sports moment was Lorenzo Charles' dunk against the Cougars in that NCAA Final game. I never came back to college basketball after that. As for the Rockets, Stockton's shot is number 2 to me. The worst was when Dream forced the trade and blamed it (partially) on Rudy.
<img src="http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/features/galleries/heroes/charles/charles01_md_01.jpg"> I like seeing Cougar High fans cry. GO OWLS!!
For me, no question: The day we traded for Barkley. I knew immediately we'd never get back to the finals with him involved. He's a selfish loser -- hey, there's a reason a guy this talented, playing for some very good teams, never got a ring. He destroys team chemistry everywhere he goes. The Rox went from being an exciting team to a plodding, lob-it-in-to-Chuck-and-clear-the-side kind of team. To this day, I still cringe when I see him on-screen, because I can't help but think about that matchup between MJ & Dream that we all would've seen had the Rockets not traded for this bonehead.
Hey heyp, I supported BOTH the coogs and the Owls. So don't knock on me with that Cougar High stuff. Anyway, I don't even care what they are doing anymore. I heard that UH never had a good team since Dream left and Rice never had a good team since LBJ was president.
this is an easy one, Stockton's shot in a landslide..........what made me the most sad was if he didnt hit it, the Rox would be in the finals that year and Barkley might have a ring, it felt bad but i feel more for Charles, that was his last real shot at a title.
I haven't seen too many Barkley haters on this board. But I hated Pippen more than Charles. The Barkley trade was one of the worst moves. the over-the-hill Barkley was not worth two good young players in Horry and Cassell (although I didn't like Sam's big mouth either). And he would obviously compete with Dream for the same offensive spot on the left low post.
In a game - Rudy getting sucker punched in the face. Outside the game - Louis Lloyd and Mitchell Wiggins getting busted for Coke.
Surprised no one has mentioned this yet as a worst Rockets moment. Everyone remembers the choke job by the Oilers vs. the Bills in the playoffs but that was only half of the worst day in Houston sports history for me. The 2nd half: that nite the rockets are in Portland up by 7 with under 1 minute to play. Just when you think there may be something to cheer you up after the worst choke jobs in football history....the rockets blow the lead and lose in overtime. I still remember turning the t.v. off after that and sitting in the dark for a few minutes wondering why and how this could happen to my teams in one day! 2nd saddest moment is when HeyDude forgot that I was with him along with RocketsO3 when we got booted out of the lower deck of the Compaq Center last season. Punk! Losing Dream also ranks pretty hi to me.
You don't have enough posts. No one would have known who I was talking about Sadder than that is me telling Mango what section you'd all be in, and not hearing from him before we left. Then we never sat in that section, and Mango pulled a cameo surprise appearance and couldn't find anyone until the end of the game when he could spot my tye-dye shirt. Another sad moment was seeing BGM and DM with their 'fros finally get booted out of the seats that they squatted in for like 4-5 Saturdays in a row. The next game they were up at the top row of the Summit with the 'fros and no one within 20 rows of them. lol. Another sad moment ... well, a painful moment ... was watching Drexler give his 40 minute half-time speech when we retired his jersey. The players had to start bouncing balls to queue him that he had to wrap it up, halftime is only 14 minutes. The rockets later got fined for that, as I recall.
Beside Hakeem's leaving and Loss agianst Jazz with O/B/D, there is another moment I felt real sad.when pip openly requested a trade, I had a feeling our dynasty was becoming a past, hope of champion was losing, I felt really sad, so I hate pip.
