See, I knew I was forgetting someone on bass. Might have to give him the nod over Geddy Lee. Sorry Rockets2K.
I don't know anything about playing, so I'll just play the songwriting angle: Vocals: Butch Walker Guitar: Brian May or Angus Young Bass: Chip Z'Nuff Drums: Roger Taylor
Nigel Tufnel - Guitar Derek Smalls - Bass David St. Hubbins - Guitar tossup between John "Stumpy" Pepys, Eric "Stumpy Joe" Childs, Peter "James" Bond, Mick Shrimpton, Joe "Mama" Besser, C.J. Vanston, Ric Shrimpton - drums
YES! Keep the drummers away from gardening tools, flamable products, and other peoples vomit, and you've got a damn good band....as long as they can find the stage in Cleveland.
Vocals: Muddy Waters Bass : Willie Dixon Drums: Art Blakey Guitar: Charlie Christian How about that for a jazz-blues hoedown!
I'm confused Manny... are you nominating 3 different drummers? or did you just confuse Nicko Mcbrain for Doug Sampson? Sampson was only Maiden's drummer for a short period before they were discovered. Clive Burr was the drummer for the first three albums and Nicko for the rest. drummer2k...no shame there...Les is a helluva bassist..I'm not a big fan of Primus, but I can see talent when I hear it.
Manny great call on your list. I'm going to have to steal your bass and guitar player. Vocals/Guitar - Frank Black Guitar - Johnny Marr Bass - Peter Hook Drums - Mark Brzezicki (underrated drummer. Studio guy who drummed for Big Country. Doesn't get the same fame as Neal Peart, but every bit as good IMO)
He also played on The Cults Love album, one of my favorite albums. Buck, Stewart Copeland is one of my all time favorites and The Police are the best band in the history of the world IMO. As great as he is, his style is sort of unorthodox (in a good way) and might not sound right outside of The Police's unique punk/reggee sound. Maybe that's why no one mentioned him.
Ultimate disjointed 4 man rock band: Drums - Lars Ulrich - overproduced, loud pounding metal sound Bass - Les Claypool - weird, funky plucking Guitar - The Edge - light, repetitive looping non-distorted sound (David Byrne could work here, too) Gregg Allman - Southern bluesy wailing Now that would be interesting.
Yea, R2K, you busted my balls on that one. I only have one Iron Maiden album, "Number of the Beast" and I was too lazy to go look at who was the drummer for it so I just went to allmusic.com and Sampson's name came up as the drummer although I had a feeling that they have had more than one drummer. So, that is why I just said the drummer for Iron Maiden because I wanted to include a member from that band in my heavy metal group. I know it is cheesy but finding drummers outside of Peart or jazz legends like Blakey, Roach, Elvin Jones, and Philly Joe Jones is a damn hard thing for me to do. FB, Glad you liked that list (the first one). Hook has always been my favorite bassist as dude plays the bass like a lead guitar and Marr was the guy that REALLY made the Smiths. I know Morrissey is great in his own right but Marr had some awesome licks on songs like "Shoplifters of the World Unite", "Big Mouth Strikes Again", and "This Charming Man". Very clean and pristine playing. Another candidate for that grouping is Billy Duffy of the Cult who, IMO, is a phenomenally underrated guitar player.
