i dont think we will break up our core this summer.

our main focus will be to find a PF/C that is a great defender/rebounder + can hit a mid range jumper consistantly.

    and

a PG who can defend, hit the 3, and keep our TO's down.

our recourses to get these 2 players are cato the TE.

    how about:

cato & our #2 for ad & james

we take on james' contract but get the back-up PG we want. remember that JVG wanted to sign him last summer. james will be a FA after next season too, so we basically dump cato's contract.

the sonics will do this because they finally get a decent starting canter, free themselves o fsome access baggage (james), and clear up the logjam on the backcourt (allen, murry, barry, ridnour, daniels)

thier new line-up looks better than this years:

    cato-potapenko-booth
    radmanovic-collison
    lewis-?
    allen-murry
    barry-ridnour

and our unfinished roster would look for the moment like:

    yao-james
    mo-spoon
    jj-pike-boki
    cat-ag
    steve-ad

Do you have a gun, pictures of the Bucks' GM in a compromising situation? Anything that might help you work that trade?

While we are at it, how about this lineup of free agents?

    Nash
    Kobe
    JJ
    Sheed
    Yao

Brent Barry and Ray Allen would look mighty nice in a Rocket uni. As weak as we are at the PF position I really think the MoT/Cato combination is atleast workable. This skid of losing really made me realize how valuable Cato is to the Rockets and JVG defensive philosophy. Having two 7 footers clogging the paint is extremely nice defensively, and I really think having another good perimeter shooter at the PG position like Barry in place of Francis would really negate Cato's lack of offensive game. Plus the optimist in me is fantasizing JVG and Ewing working with Cato everyday in the offseason teaching him how to consistently hit the midrange jumper. Plus I think Cato will come in next season even leaner and better physically conditioned to be a better perimeter defender on guys like Nowitzki, Garnett, Gasol, etc.

Not anymore out of the question than trading for Ray Allen or signing Kobe.

I am not sure who will or will not be on our roster next year (well except that we know Yao will be here ;-) ) but I wouldnt mind seeing any of these players, Ray Allen, Brent Barry, Elton Brand etc.

I think we need a SOLID #2 guy behind Yao Ming (Brand or Allen). Someone that if Yao is having a bad night can pump in 20+ points. That used to be Francis, not anymore. I am not sold on Rashard Lewis or Kirk Hinrich being a solid #2 guy, but they are still decent players.

And I think we need better play at the PF position (where defense AND offense are both at least average to above average). Clearly Brand would be perfect here. I mentioned this in another thread...how about Kelvin Cato for Donyell Marshall?n The Raptors need a Center.

We need better PG play and overall better TEAM decision making with the basketball (less turnovers). Brent Barry would look nice here.

I will be happy as long as we trade all of the following :

    Steve
    Cat
    Taylor
    Cato

    AND we use the TE.

Preferably we will also trade Spoon, Pike, AG.

    Waive Wilks, MJ, Padgett

Keep only Yao, JJ. JJ to bench.

Get 4 new starters. Pick up some solid nbdl guys that are hungry for the bench/practice squad. Overload the assets at the wing, so that guy can play off of Yao.

I am Shiva, I bring you fire.

    Yao
    Duncan
    KG
    Kobe
Cynthia Cooper/fa7999 (decent shooter, good PG skills, at least won't lose the ball dribbling through my legs)

Odds on favorite for the next 8 championships in a row.

This kind of overhaul would mean another low seed in the playoffs next year.

Are you ok with that? Going through all the same chemistry pain again?

    Hell no.

We need one new starter in the backcourt, and one new player at PF, while getting rid of either MoT or Weatherspoon.

Yao, Cato, JJ, Pike, either MoT or Spoon, and either Mobley or Francis should stay. My preference would be to split Francis' time between PG and SG equally (on average) letting him play the better matchup on any given night. We should have a solid PG and a solid SG aside from Francis. JJ can be the solid SG, while someone like Eric Snow should be the solid PG.

IMO, my preference would be to sign McDyess assuming he rides this season out healthy. Then trade our TE for Eric Snow and a future pick. Then trade this future pick and Mobley to the Pacers for Al Harrington. Mobley is easily as godo a sixth man as Harrington, but at a position where they need it more since Reggie is getting old, while Bender and Croshere can backup the 3. This would give us:

    Yao/Cato
    McDyess/MoT/Cato
    JJ/Harrington/Boki
    Francis/JJ/Pike
    Snow/Francis

I'd be a bit worried about the shooting, and the overcrowded PF position, so I'd think about swapping MoT with Austin Croshere. This would give us a slightly better line-up shooting-wise:

    Yao/Cato
    McDyess/Cato/Croshere
    JJ/Harrington/Croshere
    Francis/JJ/Pike
    Snow/Francis

That would be a dream scenario IMO./

Trades: Cato to Boston for Mihm and Atkins
Free Agents: Rasheed Wallace, Brent Barry, and Hidayet Turkoglu
    Draft: Christian Drejer

    Steve/Atkins
    Barry/Cat
    Turkoglu/JJ/Drejer
    Wallace/Taylor
    Yao/Mihm

That team has a lot of differnet lineups to match up with just about any team in the L. There are a combination of shooters and slashers. I'd like to figure out a way to get rid of Taylor's contract, but I doubt that would be possible (S&T for Barry?). We could also go big with Barry/JJ/Wallace/Mihm/Yao or small with Steve/Cat/JJ/Turkoglu/Wallace. Get it done CD!

jvg proposed a trade early in the season for camby, and wanted to sign antonio daniels.

look for those guys to be targeted this offseason.

camby for the TE makes sence for denver. this would bring them so far under the cap the would have 2 max contracts to offer. then you add the TE to that. they could bring in 3 or 4 very good players this summer if they did this.

for us, we get a pf/c who can shoot, rebound, block, and defend the quick 4's. his gameis a very nice fit. he isnt my first option, but the situation is right and he looks to be gundy's top choice.

combine this trade with the cato + our #2 for daniels and james, and we have a much imroved team:

    yao-james
    camby-mo-spoon
    jj-ag-boki
    cat-pike
    steve-ad

my guess is we would make one more move to finish the roster. it looks like it would be a back-up big guy and a back-up swingman for a decent 3.

eg. for a team thats looking for some extra D, we can offer spoon and ag. if they want offence, mo and pike.

I really like this comment, and I especially like "solid" being in all caps, kind of like having you name in lights. ;)

    I like MoT and Cato.

And I believe that JVG will try to trade Steve.
Judging by the type of players JVG had been bringing in (ex-knicks who obeys JVG), it doesn't make sense that JVG will put up with a team leader who blatantly go against him. No way JVG is going to tolerate this. It's just a matter of time for Steve to be traded if JVG sticks around.
