    thoust nickpicketh!

I wouldn't take that field goal on equal footing to today's, due to the pace of the game back in Stokes' day. What i did to adjust for "low" field goal shooting percentage was to take in account for the average field goal percentage of the era and contrast it to today's, then find the differential and apply it to the older statistics.

I chose Stokes mainly due to the all-around factor - he was one of the best forwards at six seven and 240 pounds, who ranked among the league leaders in assists while averaging 17 boards per. The houdini of the hardwood called him a "Karl Malone with more finesse."

You mean he out-ran an over-the-hill Oscar? ;) Cowens' heart makes up for his size deficiency, sure, but i already got an undersized center on the team- Russell, then i'm thinking, one's good enough!

Despite elongated arms, it's hard to see West bothering today's supersized off guards much when they pull up for the j.

Magic is expendable, cuz I already got Oscar. Abdul-Jabbar wasn't too hard to leave off, if i already had Olajuwon, Wilt and Russell manning the paint. But the Doctor? That was a toughie. Why wouldn't you pick Connie Hawkins over the Doc? :D

I didn't read your post or anyone else's before i rushed and posted mine. Is Clyde the Glide on your team? :p

    Blasphemy!!!! ;)

Play Magic at SG, at PF, at SF, at C, who cares - he'd still be a star! He MUST be on your team!!

All right, Fichte, since you're so lazy that you can't look back on the other page for my team, here are the differences:

    Stockton instead of Frazier
    Magic instead of Jordan
    Erving instead of Drexler
    Malone instead of Stokes
    Kareem instead of Duncan

You only picked 12... my other 3 were: Jordan, Pippen, Barkley.

Whoops, that question was poorly phrased. I meant to ask why isn't the Glide on your team?

I love Drexler... I just have a hard time putting him over anyone else I have on here. Perhaps one of the "last three" (Jordan, Pippen, Barkley) could be kicked off in favor of Drexler, but not any of my starters.

I'll have a shot from over the pond:

C: Chamberlain - never saw him but just sounds an amazing all round player, apart from the FT's

PF: Olajuwon - best centre I've seen but would be superb at the 4 spot.

SF: Bird - the passing, the shooting, the clutch plays, the pure smarts.

2G: Jordan - really, who else?

PG: Stockton - the man to set the table

6th Man: Magic - covers everyone to a high, high standard. Perfect 6.

    Rest of the bench:

The Big O: Guard par excellence
Dr J: flair to burn, rather good player methinks
Mchale: Great supporting player, Duncan catching up
Russell: In case you need some special 'D'
Isiah: additional buzz in the backcourt
    Sir Charles: fiesty and passionate

I've looked at this as a team that could work together but brings different aspects to the game.

    C- Wilt, Shaq
    PF- Duncan, CB4, Karla
    SF- Bird, Dr. J
    SG- MJ, Jerry West
    PG- Magic, Oscar, Isiah

C- Wilt and Shaq are thed two most dominant Big men to ever play the game.
PF- All modern players but Duncan is flexible enough to move to the center position if needed. CB4 (as proved by the Olympics) would be perfectly happy to rebound and not demand the ball if it meant playing for a winner. I hate Karl but he is good enough to play on my team.
SF- Bird is the best non-athlete to ever lace them up in the NBA! :) Seriosuly he always finds a way to win. Dr. J was my favorite player as a kid, so maybe he doesn't belong but it would make me happy to see him play oin this team, so he;s on it!
SG- MJ is simply the best ever. Jerry West (although I never saw him play) could flat out shoot and knows how to win.
PG- Magic finds a way to win and would be perfectly content getting everyone else involved. THe Big O averaged a triple double for a season, he could play! Finally Isiah would be a great addition because like Magic he finds a way to win and is flexible enough to slide to the SG if needed.

Anyways I would go to war with those 12 any day. I did have a tough time leaving McHale, Dream, Russell, Moses Malone and Havliceck off the team. Especially Russell who may have been a great fit but I couldn't see a 3rd center getting any minutes behind Wilt and Shaq.

For what it's worth, Oscar Robertson actually averaged a cumulative triple double for over five seasons, from 1960-1961 to 1964-1965 with this unearthly stat line straight out of a b-ball video game simulation: 30.3 points, 10.6 assists, 10.4 rebounds!
