That's great basso, glad you and your wife had success. I'm just curious if you don't mind me asking, where did you go through IVF? We've had one failed attempt at Baylor, and are planning on going up to St. Barnabas in NJ the next time around, because we have to do PGD due to me having a translocation. Back on topic: I think it's a wonderful thing to do for an infertile couple, but it's not something you should take lightly. If you've seriously considered it and feel comfortable with it, then I say go for it.
i'd most definately sell my sperm for whatever reason they wanna give me. they can call me smart, they can call me dumb - i don't really care, just give me $200 and a playboy and i'll give em what they want.
we had 11 assisted attempts, the last three IVF. two of the latter worked. we started at the genetics and IVF center in falls church, va (http://www.givf.com/), but the place was a factory, very little personal attention (seriously, the website has a shopping cart on it!). when we moved back to NYC, a friend told us about a much smaller practice in Englewood Cliffs, NJ, (http://north-hudsonivf.com/) and we had an extremely positive experience. I've heard good and bad about st. barnabas, but if you're going to come up this way, and you can email me through the bbs, i'd be more than happy to share some info.
When i was in college there were a number of advertisements offering around $20,000 for eggs from U of C students. Granted, it is much more painful and complicated to donate an egg but all the same, I don't think they had takers. Apparently the other top colleges also don't see many female students willing to give up an egg. Sperm donors seem to be quite easy to come by. Perhaps men are more used to being careless about reproduction
meant to make this point earlier, and i think probably most of you realize this, but genetics has zero relationship to parenthood.
